Matra MS670B

This car competed in the Invitation Class in the Pre-1972 Le Mans Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998.
It's a 1974 Matra MS670B designed by Bernard Boyer and powered by a 2,999cc V12 engine. The 1973 and 1974 Le Mans 24 Hour races were both won by one of these cars driven by Henri Pescarolo and GĂ©rard Larrousse, and the 1972 race was won by Henri Pescarolo and Graham Hill in an earlier version of the car. At this Silverstone meeting the car was entered for the race by Lucida International Ltd and driven by Abba Kogan.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint

This car took part in the HSCC/HRSR Alexander Forbes Historic Racing Saloon Championship Race at the HSCC's Historic Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2001.
It's Andrew Colley's 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint with what the programme of the event says is a 2,000cc engine, presumably the 1,962cc inline-4 twin cam unit that was fitted to the later 2000 GT Veloce. The car is pictured here at Lodge Corner during the race.

Friday's Ferrari

This car competed in two rounds of the Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge series at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.
It's Erich Traber's 1954 Ferrari 250 Europa GT seen here in the pits during a practice session, and was driven in the race, according to the programme of the event, by Christian Traber. The car is chassis #0357GT and has the Aurelio Lampredi designed 2,953cc V12 engine that powered most of the 250 series of Ferraris.

On 21 October 2016 I showed a photograph of the car at Redgate corner during one of the races that it contested that day.

Dennis Horla

This vehicle was one of the entrants in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1996.
It's not listed in the programme of the event, but it's a 1954 Dennis Horla originally operated by KS Vacuum Tanker Hire of Chesterfield. The only information I have about it is the DVLA record which says the tax was last renewed on 1 March 2019 and it has a 3,770cc petrol engine.

Georges Roesch Talbots

I photographed this line-up of Talbots at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997.
The three green cars bear the number plates of the three Talbot 105s that took part in the 1934 Alpine Rally, each of the cars completing the rally without a single penalty point and thus winning a Coupe des Alpes, or Alpine Cup. The programme of the Silverstone meeting shows that number 72 was the 1934 Talbot 105 of Stephen Curtis and was driven in the two Pre-War Sports Car Races that weekend by Humphrey Avon and Tom Threlfall. Of the other two Talbot 105s one was entered by Stephen Curtis and driven by himself and David Morris, and the other entered by Peter Bradfield and driven by him and by another driver 'to be nominated'. Those cars were numbered 71 and 73, but the racing numbers can't be seen on the other two green cars in the photograph and I've not been able to positively identify which is which. BGH 21 and BGH 23 are largely original, but BGH 22 is a replica built after the original car bearing that number was exported to Australia. The white car at the far end, registered PL 2, is a 1930 Talbot 90, one of the team that finished in 3rd and 4th places in the 1930 Le Mans 24 Hour race. This car isn't listed in the Silverstone programme as taking part in the races there.

There's a Talbot Owners Club, whose website carries a report of the 1934 Alpine Rally.

Jaguar C-Type

This car is competing in the BRDC Historic Sportscar Championship race at the Historic Grand Prix Car Association's International Historic Grand Prix meeting at Donington Park in May 2004.
Photographed at McLeans Corner, it's not shown in the programme of the event but it's a 1952 Jaguar C-Type and may have been owned at the time by Dave Lomas. Partly hidden behind the C-Type is the 1952 RGS Atalanta of Barry Wood with the Lola Mk1 of Anthony Galliers-Pratt bringing up the rear.

Morgans

These are two cars that took part in a Four Lap Handicap Race for Morgan 3 Wheelers at the VSCC's meeting at Oulton Park in August 1996. The race was run under an ACU Permit, and each car had to carry a passenger.
This is Ben Wildsmith's 1932 Morgan Super Aero with a 1,098cc JAP LTOWZ V-twin engine. His passenger was Paula Thorpe.
This is the 1927 Morgan Aero of John Minns, partnered by Michael Minns and has a 980cc JAP KTW(SV) V-twin engine.

There's a Morgan Three Wheeler Club for enthusiasts and owners of Morgan 3 Wheeler vehicles.

On 4 September 2013 I showed photographs of various Morgan 3 Wheelers that I'd taken at Oulton Park in 2002.

Bristol 450S

This car was alongside several other Bristol and Bristol-engined cars at the Bristol Owners' Club's area at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in August 1996.
It's a 1955 Bristol 450S, the last remaining example of the Bristol cars that competed in the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1953, 1954 and 1955. The original Bristol 450S was constructed around the chassis of the 1952 ERA G-Type and was powered by a straight-6 Bristol 1,971cc engine. Three body styles were used, two different coupe versions in the first two years and the open version as seen above in 1955. Two cars were entered in the 1953 race but neither finished, but in each of the following two years a three-car team finished in 7th, 8th and 9th places overall and in the first three places in the 2-litre class. After the dreadful accident in the 1955 race Bristol withdrew from racing and dismantled all but one of the cars, the one seen above, that was kept by Tony Crook for 30 years before passing to Simon Draper who owned the car when it appeared at this Silverstone meeting.

On 2 October 2013 I showed photographs I took of the car when it competed at the Coys meeting at Silverstone in 1993 where it was driven by Stephen Archer.

Saturday 23 March 2019

Maserati A6GCM

This car took part in two races in the Shell Ferrari Maserati Challenge series at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003.
It's John May's 1951 Maserati A6GCM, with a 6-cylinder inline 1,985cc engine, developed by Alberto Massimino and Vittorio Bellentani as a Formula 2 car but eligible to run in World Championship events in 1952 and 1953 when the races were run to Formula 2 specifications. In 1953 the A6GCM was extensively modified by Gioacchino Colombo and given a body closely resembling that of the later Maserati 250F. John May's car was originally built for the Brazilian Escuderia Bandeirantes team and is chassis #2033. On 16 June 2018 I showed a photograph of it in the pit lane at this meeting.

Friday 22 March 2019

Friday's Ferrari

This car competed in the Aston Martin GT Challenge race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2017.
It's the 2000 Ferrari 360 driven by Matthew Wilton and John Cowen in the 50 minute long race.
Although it doesn't say so in the programme the car is probably the Challenge version of the Ferrari 360 and has a 3,586cc V8 engine.
Here's the car in the early stages of the race at Druids Corner.

Thursday 21 March 2019

Bristol 410

I photographed this car at the Footman James Classic Car Show Manchester at EventCity in September 2018.
It's a 1967 Bristol 410, the last Bristol to use the 5,211cc V8 Chrysler engine that had powered Bristol cars since the Bristol 407 in 1961, Bristol cars prior to that having used a BMW-derived straight-6 engine. 82 of these cars were produced by Bristol between 1967 and 1969.

Wednesday 20 March 2019

Cooper Mk V

This car took part in the Historic Formula Racing Cars Pre '65 Single Seat Championship race at the HSCC's Summer Race Meeting at Oulton Park in July 1995.
It's the 1952 Cooper Mk V of Ian Scott which competed in the Formula 3 races of the 1950s where engines were limited to 500cc. The programme of the event says that this car's capacity was 499cc and I noted at the time that it's a JAP engine, but it doesn't say so in the programme.
There's a 500 Owners Association for owners of these cars and their website has details of all the cars that took part in this class of racing, including the Cooper Mk V.

Tuesday 19 March 2019

Willment-Climax

This car is listed in the programme of the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1994 as number 69 in the Classic Sports Car Race.
This is the 1956 Willment which has a 1,963cc FPF 4-cylinder inline Climax engine, and was then owned by Hugh Taylor who also had a Jaguar C-Type which he drove in this race instead of the Willment. The DVLA say that Willment currently has the registration number LSL893, and the number PUW4 is now that of a 3,442cc 1954 Jaguar.

On 14 January 2017 I showed a photograph of Hugh Taylor's Jaguar C-Type in front of the Willment at this meeting, and on 19 December 2015 I showed a photograph of the Willment at Oulton Park in 1996.

Monday 18 March 2019

Lamborghini Aventador

I photographed this car on 24 February 2019 in the same car park at Salford Quays where I'd photographed a Ferrari California T in December 2018.
It's a Lamborghini Aventador, though which version of the model this is I don't know, and because there's no number plate on the car I can't check the DVLA record for the year of manufacture. All the Aventador models, however, seem to have a 6,498cc V12 engine.

Auto Unions

This is a photograph I took at Donington Park in May 2001 when Audi brought an Auto Union C-Type and D-Type, and other cars, to the VSCC's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting.
This was taken during one of the demonstration runs and the cars are on the stretch of circuit between the Old Hairpin and Starkey's Bridge, the 1938 supercharged 3-litre V12 Auto Union D-Type ahead of the 1937 supercharged 6-litre V16 Auto Union C-Type.

On 2 December 2012 I showed photographs of the two cars and the article that was written about them in the programme of the event.

Saturday 16 March 2019

Aston Martin DB3S

This car took part in two races at the Aston Martin Owners Club's Autumn Historic Car Races meeting at Oulton Park in September 1993.
It's a 2,992cc straight-6 1954 Aston Martin DB3S, chassis DB3S/7, which originally had a coupe body. After an accident in the 1954 Le Mans 24 Hour race it was rebuilt with an open body and remained part of the Aston Martin works team for the 1955 and 1956 seasons, the nose being rebuilt as seen here before the start of the 1956 season. It was driven at this meeting by Simon Draper.
Here's Simon Draper at Foulstons chicane during the first of his races.

On 9 February 2015 I showed a photograph showing the four cars of the Aston Martin team, including DB3S/7, at the Daily Herald International Trophy meeting at Oulton Park in 1956.

Friday 15 March 2019

Friday's Ferrari

This car competed in the Louis Vuitton '50s Sports Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995.
It's Fritz Grashie's 1956 Ferrari 860 Monza, chassis #0602M, part of the Ferrari team alongside the 290MM in the 1956 World Sportscar Championship. The 860 Monza was a very similar car to the 857S with a longer wheelbase, but the same 3,432cc 4-cylinder inline engine.

I've shown photographs of this car previously, most recently on 14 October 2016.

Thursday 14 March 2019

Singer Junior

This car took part in the Lancashire Automobile Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run starting from the Exchange Station car park in Manchester in June 1990.
It's a 1930 Singer Junior which was entered for the run by Alan German from Cleveleys. The Junior was in production from 1926 to 1935 and had a 4-cylinder inline 848cc engine. A note about the car in the programme of the event said this:

81.    1930 Singer Junior
          Reg:  GN 1254  4 cylinder  9 hp
          (Alan German, Cleveleys)
Purchased in 1989, this is Junior's second run.

On 22 October 2016 I showed a photograph of another Singer Junior that took part in the 1993 Run.

Wednesday 13 March 2019

Porsche 356A

This car was amongst the vehicles displayed at the Porsche Club of Great Britain's area in the paddock at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1993.
It's a 1958 Porsche 356A with a 1,582cc 4-cylinder boxer air-cooled engine.

Tuesday 12 March 2019

GN Anzani

This car was in the paddock at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011, but it didn't compete in any of the races.
It's a 1924 GN with a 1,496cc 4-cylinder side-valve Anzani engine. The GN Company was formed by Ronald Godfrey and Archie Frazer Nash in 1909 producing cyclecars with V twin JAP and Peugeot engines.

Monday 11 March 2019

Chrysler

I photographed this car in the paddock at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies Meeting at Oulton Park in June 1993.
It didn't take part in the meeting and the only thing I know about it is that it's a Chrysler. The DVLA record says that it's a 1929 model and its engine capacity is 5,080cc, so it's probably a Chrysler Imperial Roadster which in 1929 had a 309 cu in capacity engine.

BRM P25

This car took part in the HGPCA Pre '65 Grand Prix Car Race at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.
It's the 1959 BRM P25 of Dave Gilmour being pushed from the scrutineering bay in the paddock. The P25 had a 2,491cc 4-cylinder inline engine and was the first BRM to win a World Championship race, Joakim Bonnier finishing in first place in the 1959 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.

I've shown photographs of the BRM P25 four times previously, most recently on 7 June 2017.

Friday's Ferrari

I took this photograph at the Donington Park Museum in September 2014.
This is the last of the Ferrari Thin Wall Special cars, which were Ferrari Formula 1 cars modified by Tony Vandervell by using his own thin wall engine bearings. The car was based on the 4,494cc V12 1950 Ferrari 375 Grand Prix car, but used the longer chassis of the Ferrari 375 Indianapolis car. The car didn't achieve any great success, but paved the way for Tony Vandervell's own Vanwall car in which Stirling Moss narrowly failed to win the 1958 Drivers' World Championship, but which won the first ever Constructors' Championship that year for Tony Vandervell. Below is the board that was alongside the car at Donington Park.

I've shown photographs of this car twice previously, on 14 February 2014 and 9 June 2017.

Thursday 7 March 2019

AC Aceca

I photographed this car at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in September 1992.
It's a 1957 AC Aceca, a coupe version of the AC Ace, and was produced from 1954 to 1963. As with the Ace, the Aceca had the choice of a straight-6 AC engine of 1,991cc or a straight-6 Bristol engine of 1,971cc, and there were also a few cars that has a tuned version of the straight-6 2,553cc Ford Zephyr engine. The DVLA record says that this car has a 1,971cc engine which seems to be the Bristol unit.

Wednesday 6 March 2019

Stirling Moss

My brother took this photograph in the paddock at Silverstone during practice for the British Grand Prix in July 1956.
It's Stirling Moss, who drove a works Maserati 250F in the Grand Prix, qualifying in pole position for the race, but stopping with gearbox problems on the 94th lap of the 101 lap race. He was credited with eighth place in the final standings.

On 22 September 2016 I showed a photograph of Stirling Moss in the paddock sitting in the cockpit of the Maserati 300S that he drove to win the supporting sports car race at this meeting.

Tuesday 5 March 2019

ERA

I took this photograph at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophy meeting at Oulton Park in August 1992.
It's Bill Morris in the Allcomers Race in Gordon Chapman's 1938 ERA E-Type GP2 closely followed by Donald Day in his 1937/36 ERA R14B. The E-Type has a supercharged 1,496cc 6-cylinder inline engine, whilst Donald Day's car has a similar supercharged engine of 2,044cc. The photograph was taken on the entry to Lodge Corner.

Monday 4 March 2019

1914 Sunbeam Tourist Trophy

This car contested the Edwardian Race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in June 2008.
Seen here at McLean's Corner during the race, it's Nicholas Pellett's 1914 Sunbeam Tourist Trophy with a 3,255cc 4-cylinder inline 16-valve engine that was copied (with a larger bore and stroke) from the 1913 3-litre Coupe de L'Auto Peugeot. The 1914 Tourist Trophy race in the Isle of Man was won by Kenelm Lee Guinness driving one of these cars.

Sunday 3 March 2019

Tyrrell 012

This car competed in the Grand Prix Masters Race for F1 Cars 1966-1985 at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.
It's the 1983 Tyrrell 012 of Ian Simmonds and is chassis #012/1. The 012 was introduced in the 1983 season and used throughout that season, the 1984 season, and the first part of the 1985 season. It was powered by a Cosworth 2,993cc V8 DFY engine and was generally outclassed by the 1½ litre turbo cars.  The cars were driven in 1982 by Michele Alboreto, whose best result was a win in the Detroit Grand Prix, and Danny Sullivan whose 5th place in the Monaco Grand Prix was the best he managed. Alboreto finished in 12th place in the Drivers' Championship with Sullivan 17th and Tyrrell 12th in the Constructors' Championship. In 1984 Martin Brundle and Stefan Johansson shared the driving in one car while Stefan Bellof drove the other car in all the races in which the cars ran except the German Grand Prix where Mike Thackwell deputised. After the Detroit Grand Prix the Tyrrell team's results were excluded from the Championship for technical infringements but they were allowed to compete for the rest of the season without being able to score any points, although they eventually did not appear for the final three races. The cars were driven in the early races in the 1985 season mainly by Martin Brundle and Stefan Bellof with no great success and were replaced by the 1½ litre turbo V6 Renault engined Tyrrell 014 halfway through the year.

Saturday 2 March 2019

Leyland Tiger PS1

This vehicle took part in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester, in September 1995.
In 1947 Blackburn Corporation Transport ordered 10 single deck Leyland Tiger PS1s which were provided in two batches, and this vehicle was part of the second batch delivered in March 1948. The programme of the event had this information about it:

Leyland Tiger PS1, Crossley Body, 1947                                                         BCB340
Blackburn Borough Transport Ltd
Entered by      P Beaumont
This vehicle is one of a batch of 5 which entered service in 1948. Sold for preservation in 1968 and re-purchased by BBT Ltd in 1978 and restored to present livery.

The DVLA now has no record of this registration number and sadly, looking at the last comment on this site, it seems that this vehicle has been neglected to such an extent that it is now beyond repair.

On 11 December 2018 I showed a photograph of another Leyland Tiger PS1 that I had taken at the Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in September 1996.

Friday 1 March 2019

Friday's Ferrari

This car competed in the AMOC Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.
It's the 1996 Ferrari F355 Challenge of Wayne Marrs in the scrutineering bay being checked over before the start of racing. The car has a 3,496cc V8 engine with twin overhead camshafts per bank and five valves per cylinder. The official figure is that 108 examples of this model were produced.
Here's the car back in the pit garage.

On 6 May 2016 I showed three more photographs of the car at this meeting.
