This car competed in the Grand Prix Masters Race for F1 Cars 1966-1985 at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.
It's the 1983 Tyrrell 012 of Ian Simmonds and is chassis #012/1. The 012 was introduced in the 1983 season and used throughout that season, the 1984 season, and the first part of the 1985 season. It was powered by a Cosworth 2,993cc V8 DFY engine and was generally outclassed by the 1½ litre turbo cars. The cars were driven in 1982 by Michele Alboreto, whose best result was a win in the Detroit Grand Prix, and Danny Sullivan whose 5th place in the Monaco Grand Prix was the best he managed. Alboreto finished in 12th place in the Drivers' Championship with Sullivan 17th and Tyrrell 12th in the Constructors' Championship. In 1984 Martin Brundle and Stefan Johansson shared the driving in one car while Stefan Bellof drove the other car in all the races in which the cars ran except the German Grand Prix where Mike Thackwell deputised. After the Detroit Grand Prix the Tyrrell team's results were excluded from the Championship for technical infringements but they were allowed to compete for the rest of the season without being able to score any points, although they eventually did not appear for the final three races. The cars were driven in the early races in the 1985 season mainly by Martin Brundle and Stefan Bellof with no great success and were replaced by the 1½ litre turbo V6 Renault engined Tyrrell 014 halfway through the year.
