2015 Maserati Quattroporte

Here are two photographs of a car that I took on a walk alongside Salford Quays in January 2022.

It’s a Maserati Quattroporte, a sixth-generation car, and has a 2,987cc V6 turbodiesel engine.

2019 Mercedes Benz Actros 1820

This is a photograph I took at the back of the Lowry Theatre at Salford Quays in April 2022.

It's the 2019 Mercedes Benz Actros 1820 used by the Orchestra of Opera North for its engagements up and down the county.

1950 Bentley Mk VI

Here are some photographs I took in January 2020 of a car I saw outside the The Lowry at Salford Quays when I came out of the Lowry Outlet Mall at the other side of the square.

It’s a 1950 Bentley Mk VI which has a 6-cylinder inline 4,257cc engine.

5,208 of these cars were produced between 1946 and 1952.

2019 Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder

I came across this car when I was having a wander around Salford Quays back in April.

It's a 2019 Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder

It has a 5,204cc V10 engine

The Lamborghini Huracán made its debut in 2013 and the EVO Spyder was introduced in 2019

It has a claimed top speed of 202mph

The BBC Studios seem to be particularly grandiose and were funded by the BBC Licence Payer - not least by the over 75s who had their right to a free licence removed by the BBC.

One of the routes on the Manchester Metrolink system is from Ashton-under-Lyne to Eccles with a spur at Salford Quays going to Media City. I understand that because of track maintenance work the Eccles service currently terminates at Deansgate-Castlefield. Here are two photographs I took on a recent evening of trams going in both directions calling at Media City.

This was the tram from Eccles to Deansgate-Castlefield at Media City.

Five minutes later this was the tram from Deansgate-Castlefield to Eccles.

2021 Polestar

I saw this car recently which I did not recognise at the GMEV charging point at Salford Quays and there appears to be nothing on the car to identify it.

The DVLA record shows that it's a 2021 Polestar and looking closely at the photograph I can see that it says 'Polestar Automotive UK Limited' at the bottom of the number plate. Polestar is apparently a sub-brand of the Volvo company and the cars are produced at the Luqiao CMA Super Factory in Luqiao, China.

Salford Quays

These are a few photographs I took in the early evening around Salford Quays on 13 October.

This is an office block on the corner of Central Bay opposite the Salford Watersports Centre.

A Manchester Metrolink tram pulling away from the Wharfside stop and on its way to the Trafford Centre.

Central Bay from the side of the Salford Watersports Centre on the right. There's usually a large number of swans and other waterfowl in this area.

Reflections of La Pinta, an Amsterdam clipper that formerly worked as a grain transporter on the Rhine before coming to Salford Quays where it's permanently moored and is apparently a floating furniture shop. Behind it is the former luxury yacht Jacamar which now appears to offer luxury airbnb accommodation.

Manchester Metrolink Trams

 I took this photograph recently at Salford Quays close to Media City.

It's a tram on the Manchester Metrolink Ashton to Eccles route passing the Harbour City tramway stop on The Quays.

1999 Fiat Coupé 20V

I photographed this car recently at Salford Quays.

It's a 1999 Fiat Coupé 20V with what the DVLA record says is a 1,998cc engine.

The Fiat Coupé was introduced in 1994 with a 4-cylinder inline 1,995cc engine with both turbo and non-turbo versions.

In 1996 a 4-cylinder 1,747cc version was introduced together with the 5-cylinder 1,998cc 20V model.

The 20V was available in both turbo and non-turbo versions.

Lamborghini Aventador

I photographed this car on 24 February 2019 in the same car park at Salford Quays where I'd photographed a Ferrari California T in December 2018.

It's a Lamborghini Aventador, though which version of the model this is I don't know, and because there's no number plate on the car I can't check the DVLA record for the year of manufacture. All the Aventador models, however, seem to have a 6,498cc V12 engine.

Friday's Ferrari

I saw this car in a fenced and locked car park behind an apartment block at Salford Quays in December 2018.

It's a 2015 Ferrari California T, with a 3,855cc twin turbo 32-valve V8 engine.

Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

I've shown photographs previously of cars using the Greater Manchester Electric Vehicle scheme charging point at Salford Quays. There's two charging points there and on rare occasions I've seen a vehicle using one, but recently for the first time I walked past when there were two cars using the facility at the same time.

This is the all-electric Nissan Leaf, introduced in 2010 which uses either a 24 kWh or 30 kWh battery  which give a range of 84 or 107 miles respectively.

This car is the hybrid Volkswagen Golf GTE which has a 1.4 litre petrol engine and a 75 kW electric motor. The car was introduced in 2014 and in all-electric mode has a range of 31 miles.

Toyota Aygo & Co-wheels Car Club

I'd walked past this car at various times over the last few weeks at Salford Quays and never really got round to finding out what the 'Co-wheels car club' was.

So a couple of weeks ago I took these photographs of the car and looked up the club on the Internet. It turns out that it's a club that you pay to join and have the use of a car that you have to pre-book for a specified period - by the hour or day. You pay a joining fee and agree a minimum £5 monthly spend, then pay for the period of hire plus a mileage charge. You don't have to pay for any petrol you may have to put in the car whilst you're using it, this is covered by the mileage charge. I've not costed it out to see if it's cheaper than hiring a vehicle the traditional way, but if you don't have a car and don't have the need to use one all that frequently I would imagine that it's much less cheaper than buying one.

This car, by the way, is a Toyota Aygo Second Generation, and the '66' on the number plate indicates that it was first registered between 1 September 2016 and 28 February 2017.

Ford Mustang

About four months ago I took a couple of photographs of a car I spotted at Salford Quays.

It's a sixth generation Ford Mustang GT - although the car was only unveiled in 2013 the '61' in the number plate would normally indicate a car registered between 1 September 2011 and 29 February 2012.

Here's another one I spotted in Hyde a couple of weeks ago - this also has a number plate that doesn't relate to its age: the 'T' on the number plate indicates vehicles first registered between 1 March 1999 and 31 August 1999.

Friday's Ferrari

Here's a rather special car I saw recently parked at the Holiday Inn Express at Salford Quays.

It's a Ferrari 458 Speciale - a car that Ferrari say is 'the most high performance Ferrari V8 ever'.

The colour scheme on this car is reminiscent of that used by the American Tony Parravano on his team of mainly Ferraris and Maseratis in the 1950s.
