Friday's Ferrari

This is a photograph that I took at the Ferrari Racing Days meeting at Silverstone in September 2017.

It’s a Ferrari F355 Challenge model, a modified version of the F355 and was produced from 1995 to 1999 specifically for the Ferrari Challenge race series. It has a 3,496cc V8 engine.

Ferrari Challenge

The Ferrari Challenge series was initiated in 1993 as a result of a number of Ferrari owners expressing a wish to be involved in racing their cars. The Ferrari 348 was the first car to be chosen and modified to make it suitable for track racing, being designated as the Ferrari 348 Challenge model. As new Ferrari models are introduced the car used in the Challenge series is changed every few years. At the Ferrari Racing Days meeting at Silverstone in September 2017 one of each of the five Challenge cars to have competed in the series up to 2017 was on display in the International Paddock.

This is the original Challenge car, the Ferrari 348 Challenge that was used between 1993 and 1995 and has a 3,405cc Ferrari F119 V8 engine.

From 1995 to 2000 the Ferrari F355 Challenge contested the series and is powered by the 3,496cc Ferrari F129 V8 engine.

In 2000 the Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge took over till 2006 and has the 3,596cc F131 V8 engine.

The next car, featuring from 2006 to 2011 was the Ferrari F430 Challenge, and this car has the 4,308cc Ferrari F136E V8 engine.

The car used from 2011 to 2017 is the Ferrari 458 Challenge and this is powered by the 4,497cc Ferrari F136 V8 engine.

I took all these photographs early in the morning after what had been a very chilly night and the windows of all the cars were all still frozen. Since 2017 two further challenge models have been introduced, the Ferrari 488 Challenge and the 488 Challenge Evo.

Friday's Ferrari

This was one of four Ferraris competing in the AMOC Intermarque Challenge Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

All four of the Ferraris were the Ferrari F355 Challenge model, and this is the 1995 car of Tristan Simpson. The F355 Challenge was produced from 1995 to 1999 and has a 3,496cc V8 engine.

This car competed in the AMOC Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It's the 1996 Ferrari F355 Challenge of Wayne Marrs in the scrutineering bay being checked over before the start of racing. The car has a 3,496cc V8 engine with twin overhead camshafts per bank and five valves per cylinder. The official figure is that 108 examples of this model were produced.

This is one of the cars taking part in the Intermarque Championship Race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It's Nicky Paul-Barron's 1996 Ferrari F355 Challenge, with a V8 engine of 3,496cc. The car was produced from 1995 to 1999 and intended for the Ferrari Challenge series of races.

108 examples of the cars were built for the series of races in both Europe and North America.

Here are a couple of  photographs of Tim Mogridge's 1996 Ferrari F355 Challenge that competed in the Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

The Ferrari F355 Challenge has a 3½ litre V8 engine and is here seen at Druids Corner during a morning practice session.

It's the 3½ litre V8 Ferrari F355 Challenge driven in the race by Vance Kearney and Lee Moulden.

This one's Nicky Paul-Barron's 1996 Ferrari F355 Challenge, with a 3496cc engine (Mr Nicky Paul-Barron it says in the programme - all the drivers are 'Mr'. 'Mrs' or 'Dr' - very polite lot these AMOC chaps).

This is Tristan Simpson's 1995 Ferrari F355 Challenge. Henry Ford is reputed to have said 'Any colour you like as long as it's black' when talking about the Model T Ford. With Ferrari you expect it to be 'Any colour you like as long as it's red'.
