1953 Lotus MkVI

I took this photograph in the paddock at the Vintage Sports Car Club’s meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.

It’s a 1953 Lotus MkVI which was the first production car that Lotus built after a series of one-off specials. Over 100 of these cars were built between 1952 and 1957 with a variety of engines, but mainly the 1,172cc Ford side-valve unit, The DVLA record says the car is still taxed and that it has a 1,567cc engine.

1952 Aston Martin DB2

This car competed in two races at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It's The Reed family's 1952 Aston Martin DB2 which the programme of the event says has the 2,992cc engine that was introduced with the DB3S in 1953. Its first race that day was the AMOC '50s Sports Car race when it was driven by David Reed, but this photograph shows it at Lodge Corner being driven by David Reed's wife, Mrs Anne Reed, during practice for the Equipe GTS Race.

1935 ERA R4A

I took this photograph at Deer Leap during the Hawthorn Memorial and Spanish Trophies Race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.

It's the 1935 ERA R4A of Nick Topliss with the 4-cylinder inline 1,988cc supercharged engine.

 

1928 Frazer Nash Ford

This is a photograph that I took during the Oulton Park Trophy Race for Special Pre-War Sports Cars at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies meeting in July 2015.

It's the 1928 Frazer Nash Ford of Jonathan Cobb about which the programme of the event says '....with Jonathan Cobb a likely front-runner in his Ford-engined Frazer Nash....'. The entry list in the programme of the event says that it has 3,320cc engine.

1994 Porsche 993

This is a photograph that I took at Druids Corner during qualifying for the Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club’s meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It’s the 1994 Porsche 993 of Stephen and Felix Archer which is a fourth generation model of the Porsche 911 and has a 3,600cc flat-six boxer engine.

1927/35 Invicta 3/4½ litre

I took this photograph in the paddock at the Vintage Sports Car Club’s meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015 where it competed in the VSCC Team Relay Race for Pre-War Sports Cars.

The programme of the event says that it’s Trevor Swete’s 1927/35 Invicta 3/4½ litre with a 4,429cc engine.

1971 Aston Martin DBS V8

I took this photograph at the Knickerbrook chicane during the 45 minute long AMOC Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club’s meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015 where it was driven by Paul and Clive Hipwell.

It's a 1973 Aston Martin V8, with a 5,340cc V8 engine designed by Tadek Marek. Introduced in 1969 as the DBS V8, 4,021 cars were produced between then and 1989, the name changing in 1972 to the Aston Martin V8 and eventually to the AM V8.

1928 Star 12/40

I took this photograph in one of the car parks at the Vintage Sports Car Club’s meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.

It’s a 1928 Star 12/40 and has a 4-cylinder inline 1,945cc engine. About 2,000 of the 12/25 and 12/40 models with this engine were produced between 1923 and 1928.

Aston Martin DP214 Replica

I took this photograph at the Knickerbrook chicane during the AMOC '50s Sports Cars race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It's the Aston Martin DP214 replica of Robert Rawe, one of three replicas of the DP214 which had contested the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1963 and 1964 and other long distance sports car races during those years - though one of the cars was destroyed in an accident during practice for the 1964 1000 Kilometres race at the Nürburgring. Robert Rawe's car was based on a 1961 Aston Martin DB4 and  has a 6-cylinder inline 3,760cc engine.

1971 Aston Martin DBS V8

This car was driven by Paul and Clive Hipwell in the 45 minute long AMOC Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club’s meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

1937 HRG 1½ Litre

I took this photograph at Druids Corner during the Bill Phillips Trophy Race for Standard & Modified Pre-War Sports Cars at the Vintage Sports Car Club's meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.

It's Andrew Mitchell in his 1937 HRG 1½ Litre which has a has a 4-cylinder inline 1,496cc Meadows engine. The programme of the event says this:

'Andrew Mitchell has scored two 2nd Place finishes in his ever-competitive HRG so far this season so will be determined to finally go one better today and successfully defend a trophy he has won the past two occasions.'

(He did go on to win the race by 1.9 seconds from the 1933 Riley TT Sprite of Tim Kneller)

1965 Austin Healey

This car competed in the Equipe GTS race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It's the 1965 Austin Healey Sprite Ashley GT driven in the 30 minute long race by Allan and Neil Cameron and has a 1,293cc engine.

1936 ERA R10B

I took this photograph at Druids corner during the Premier Cru Race for Pre-1941 Standard and Modified Racing Cars at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.

It’s the 1936 ERA R10B of Paddins Dowling which has the 1,488cc supercharged ERA engine.

1959 Aston Martin DB4

I took this photograph at Britten’s chicane during the Aston Martin GT4 Cup and V8 Vantage Cup race at the Aston Martin Owners Club’s meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

Leading is Nicholas King's in his 1959 Aston Martin DB4 closely followed by David Tinn’s 2010 Aston Martin GT4.

1931 Invicta Low Chassis S-Type

I took this photograph in the paddock at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.

It's the 1931 Invicta Low Chassis S-Type of Trevor Swete and has a 6-cylinder inline 4,467cc Meadows engine. The Invicta Company was founded by Noel Macklin and Oliver Lyle and produced cars from 1925 to 1935, and the company was wound-up in 1938. It is estimated that around 1,000 Invictas were produced in that time, and Trevor Swete's car is chassis #S79.

1957 Tojeiro Jaguar

This is a photograph I took at Brittens chicane during the AMOC '50s Sports Cars race at the Aston Martin Owners Club’s meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It's The 1957 Tojeiro Jaguar of Tom McWhirter and has the 6-cylinder inline 3,781cc version of the Jaguar XK6 engine. Behind it is the 1952 Aston Martin of David Reed and the rest of the field consisting mostly of Jaguars and Austin Healeys. John Tojeiro started building cars in the early 1950s, the first car being based on an MG TA. Other cars followed and when Cliff Davis decided he wanted a car with more power to replace his Cooper MG John Tojeiro was commissioned to build a car with a Bristol engine with similar bodywork to the Cooper. This car was very successful and attracted the attention of Ernie Bailey who had connections with AC Cars and knew they were looking for a replacement for the AC 2 litre so suggested that they should use the Tojeiro Bristol as a basis for the new car. That car became the AC Ace which in turn attracted the attention of Carroll Shelby who transformed it into the AC Cobra. John Tojeiro in the meantime built four Jaguar engined cars, the first in 1956 for John Ogier and has the registration 7 GNO. The car pictured above is a rebuild of the second car which was also owned by John Ogier who wrecked the car at a hill climb at Stapleford at the end of 1957, the rebuild being completed in 1990. The third car was built in 1958 and was loaned to Ecurie Ecosse but did not have any notable success - as far as I know it is now in New Zealand. The fourth car was built for Ecurie Ecosse in 1959 and competed in the Le Mans 24 Hour race that year but failed to finish, then was wrecked in a crash during the 1959 Tourist Trophy race at Goodwood. It has since been completely restored.

1927 HRG 1½ litre

This car competed in two races at the Vintage Sports Car Club's meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.

It's the 1927 HRG 1½ litre of P.C.Mitchell which has a 4-cylinder inline 1,496cc Meadows engine and was driven in the two races by Andrew Mitchell. The HRG company was founded in 1935 by Ted Halford, Guy Robins and Ron Godfrey and a total of 241 hand built cars were made, the last one in 1956. 

1992 Porsche 964

I took this photograph at Druids Corner during the morning qualifying for the AMOC Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It's the 1992 Porsche 964 of Robert Hollyman which has a 3,746cc flat-6 engine. The 964 is a variant of the Porsche 911 and was produced between 1989 and 1994.

1936 ERA AJM1

This vehicle is at Druids Corner competing in race number 2 at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies race meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015 which had the grand title of 'Premier Cru Racing for Pre-1941 Standard and Modified Racing Cars - 20 Mins. Incorporating the Bruce Spollon Memorial, Ten Tenths Vintage Restorations Pre-War Continental Trophies'.

It's the 1936 ERA AJM1 which has the 6-cylinder inline 1,488cc engine. The ERA website says about this car: 'Anthony J. Merrick prepared and raced R1A until its then owner sold the car.  Being without a car the resourceful Merrick shuffled his stock of genuine ERA parts and came up with AJM1. The 1980s brand new 1930s car is said to be an 80% original ERA B-type car using a 1.5 litre engine and light green early works colour scheme.' It has since been painted red and was driven at this meeting by Ben Fidler.

2007 Aston Martin N24

I took this photograph at Lodge Corner during the morning practice for the AMOC Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

The programme of the event says that this car, driven by Steven Byrne and Spencer Marsh in the race, is a 2007 Aston Martin N24 but says that it has a 4.7 litre engine which suggests that it's been brought up to GT4 specifications as the N24 was originally produced with a 4,280cc V8 engine.
