1914 Sunbeam Tourist Trophy

This car contested the Edwardian Race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in June 2008.
Seen here at McLean's Corner during the race, it's Nicholas Pellett's 1914 Sunbeam Tourist Trophy with a 3,255cc 4-cylinder inline 16-valve engine that was copied (with a larger bore and stroke) from the 1913 3-litre Coupe de L'Auto Peugeot. The 1914 Tourist Trophy race in the Isle of Man was won by Kenelm Lee Guinness driving one of these cars.

Sunbeam

The theme of the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1993 was 'British Racing Green', and here's one of the cars that featured in a display in the paddock.
This is a 1914 Sunbeam, one of a team of three built to compete in the Tourist trophy race in the Isle of Man. Designed by Sunbeam's chief designer Louis Coatalen these cars had a 3.3 litre 4 cylinder, 16 valve engine and were a copy of the 1913 Peugeot that Coatalen had acquired and stripped down in order to produce engineering drawings that differed only in the slightly larger bore on the Sunbeam version. Two of the cars failed to finish, but the third car driven by Kenelm Lee Guinness won the race.

TT Sunbeam

This car took part in the Concours event at the VSCC's race meeting at Oulton Park in August 1996, a meeting which was, appropriately, 'dedicated to the memory of Sir Henry Seagrave' who drove one of these cars in the 1922 Tourist Trophy race.
It's a 1921 TT Sunbeam and it was entered in the concours event by R K Taylor. Although built in 1921 there was no Tourist Trophy race in that year, and the car gained its 'TT' identification by winning the 1922 TT race on the Isle of Man Mountain Circuit in the hands of Jean Chassagne and his riding mechanic Robert Laly.
