1951 Maserati A6GCM

This car competed in the Maserati UK Race for Pre-1961 Grand Prix Cars at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1999.

It's John May's 1951 Maserati A6GCM, a car designed by Alberto Massimino and Vittorio Bellentani with a 6-cylinder in line 2-litre engine for Formula 2 racing. According to the programme of the event John May's car had an engine capacity of 1,985cc, and  it is chassis 2033.

1951 Maserati A6GCM

The SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2005 featured the Maserati marque and there was a Celebration Maserati Invitation Race for Maserati (and OSCA) cars. This is one of the cars taking part in that race.

It's the 1951 Maserati A6GCM of Julia de Baldanza and is chassis #2033, originally built for the Brazilian Escuderia Bandeirantes team. The car has a 6-cylinder inline 1,985cc engine, developed by Alberto Massimino and Vittorio Bellentani as a Formula 2 car but eligible to run in World Championship events in 1952 and 1953 when the races were run to Formula 2 specifications. Some of the later A6GCM chassis were subsequently given the 1954 2½ litre engine and rebuilt as interim 250F cars.

This car took part in two races in the Shell Ferrari Maserati Challenge series at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003.

It's John May's 1951 Maserati A6GCM, with a 6-cylinder inline 1,985cc engine, developed by Alberto Massimino and Vittorio Bellentani as a Formula 2 car but eligible to run in World Championship events in 1952 and 1953 when the races were run to Formula 2 specifications. In 1953 the A6GCM was extensively modified by Gioacchino Colombo and given a body closely resembling that of the later Maserati 250F. John May's car was originally built for the Brazilian Escuderia Bandeirantes team and is chassis #2033. On 16 June 2018 I showed a photograph of it in the pit lane at this meeting.

It's John May's 1951 6-cylinder inline 1,985cc Maserati A6GCM, a car created for Formula 2 racing, but which competed in World Drivers Championship races in 1952 and 1953 when these were run to Formula 2 regulations. Only 12 examples of this model were built, several of which were later converted to Maserati 250F specifications, and this one is chassis #2033. On 18 July 2017 I showed a photograph of this car that I'd taken at Silverstone in July 2000.

Friday's Ferrari

This car participated in a round of the Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge series at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.

The blue car is Stephen Dudley's 1950 Ferrari 166/195, which I've featured before, on 6 September 2013, at Silverstone. The car was originally a 166, but was converted to 195 specifications in 1951 and is chassis #071S. The car behind it is the 1951 Maserati A6GCM of Julia de Baldanza (#2033) and in front is the 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB TdF of Conrad Ulrich (#1141GT). The photograph was taken at Redgate corner.
