1948 Leyland Tiger PS1

This vehicle took part in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1990.

It's a 1948 Leyland Tiger with a Brush body, and was provided new to Burnley, Colne and Nelson.  The note about it in the programme of the event reads as follows:

Sold by BCN in 1996 and purchased for preservation in 1974. During repairs to the body the rear entrance has been replaced.

1948 Leyland Tiger PS1

This was one of the vehicles that turned up at a small motoring meet at the top of Werneth Low in Hyde in July 1991.

It's a 1948 Leyland Tiger with a Brush body, and was provided new to Burnley, Colne and Nelson.  It was converted to front entrance for one man operation in 1960 and reconverted to the original rear entrance during restoration in the early 1970s.

This vehicle was converted to front entrance for one man operation in 1960. Purchased by the present owner in 1974 and reconverted to original rear entrance during restoration.

Leyland Tiger PS1

This vehicle took part in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester, in September 1995.

In 1947 Blackburn Corporation Transport ordered 10 single deck Leyland Tiger PS1s which were provided in two batches, and this vehicle was part of the second batch delivered in March 1948. The programme of the event had this information about it:

This vehicle is one of a batch of 5 which entered service in 1948. Sold for preservation in 1968 and re-purchased by BBT Ltd in 1978 and restored to present livery.

The DVLA now has no record of this registration number and sadly, looking at the last comment on this site, it seems that this vehicle has been neglected to such an extent that it is now beyond repair.

On 11 December 2018 I showed a photograph of another Leyland Tiger PS1 that I had taken at the Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in September 1996.

Leyland Tiger PS1

It's a 1950 Leyland Tiger PS1 with a C35F Alexander body and powered by a 7.4 litre diesel engine. A note in the programme of the event reads as follows:

Although the Greater Manchester area was dominated by urban bus services, rural services were a way of life in some areas of the country. Walter Alexander and Sons Ltd of Falkirk ran buses in north east Scotland using vehicles such as this one. Alexander's buses were also used on express services from Scotland to other parts of Great Britain, including Manchester.
