Maseratis

I photographed these four Maseratis at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1994, but didn't record any details about the cars at the time.
This is a 1977 Maserati Merak, a car that was produced from 1972 to 1983 with a 3 litre V6 engine. The DVLA record now shows SCB 691 to be a 2015 Mercedes-Benz.
This car is a Maserati Khamsin which was produced between 1974 and 1982 with a 4.9 litre V8 engine. No DVLA record exists for MJ 1862.
The Maserati Mexico was produced between 1966 and 1972 with a V8 engine of either 4.2 or 4.7 litres. With the registration number ending with a 'K' it should be either a 1971 or 1972 model. Again the DVLA does not have a record of EKP 52K.
This is a 1971 Maserati Indy, introduced in 1969 as a replacement for the Maserati Sebring and available with a choice of V8 engines of 4.2, 4.7 or 4.9 litres capacity. According to the DVLA record this car has the 4.7 litre unit. Production of the Indy ended in 1975.

Austin 7

This is one of the cars taking part in the Lancashire Automobile Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1993, and it's pictured at the start of the run at the Village Hotel, Cheadle, Stockport.
It's an Austin 7 Tourer with a 4-cylinder inline 747cc engine, and the only information about it in the programme of the event is that it's a 1929 Austin Sports entered by a Mrs Hilda Moores of Denton, Manchester, presumably the lady in the passenger seat. I can't tell whether the registration number is JG 351 or JG 851, but the DVLA record doesn't recognise either of those numbers.

Brabham BT20

I photographed this car at the Donington Park museum in October 1989.
It's a 1966 Brabham BT20, raced by Brabham in the later part of the 1966 season and the early part of the 1967 season. It was powered by a 2,994cc V8 Repco engine and helped Jack Brabham win the 1966 World Championship and Denny Hulme to win it the following season. Two cars were built and this car is chassis F1-1-66.

Friday's Ferrari

This is a car I've seen at Oulton Park at two or three different meetings in one or other of the car parking areas around the circuit, and these photographs were taken at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting of May 2017.
It's a 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT with a 2,419cc V6 engine, 3,761 of which were produced between 1969 and 1974.
It replaced the 1,987cc V6 engined Ferrari Dino 206, and was itself replaced by the Ferrari 308 GTB.

Maserati 300S

This car was driven by Willie Green in the Champagne Charles Heidsieck Sports Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1993.
It's the 1955 Maserati 300S of Richard Crump, with a 6-cylinder inline 2,993cc engine developed from the 2½ litre engine of the Maserati 250F Grand Prix car, but with a longer stroke. It appears to be chassis #3054.

On 23 December 2017 I showed a photograph of three examples of the 300S, including this car, at Silverstone in 1994.

Lotus 15

This car competed in the 1950s Sports Cars race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007.
It's the 1958 Lotus 15 of Philip Walker. The Lotus 15 was a successor to the Lotus X, but was visually similar to, and developed from, the smaller Lotus Eleven, and was designed for the 4-cylinder inline Coventry Climax FPF engine which varied in capacity from 1½ to 2½ litres. Philip Walker's car had the 1,995cc engine.

Morgan Aero 8 GT

This car took part in the Aston Martin GT Challenge race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2017.
It's Tom Andrew's 1999 Morgan Aero 8 GT which the programme of the event says has a 4,600cc engine, although the Aero 8 originally had a 4,400cc BMW V8 engine and changed to a 4.799cc V8 BMW unit in 2007.

Matra MS80

This was one of the contestants in the Grand Prix Masters race at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.
It's the 1969 Matra MS80 of Rick Carlino, the car with which Jackie Stewart in that season won his first World Championship. The car was powered by the Ford Cosworth 2,993cc DFV engine, as were many of the competing cars that season.

Vauxhall Prince Henry

After the lunch break on the Sunday of the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2005 the marshals were delivered back to their trackside posts by a group of pre-First World War cars that had taken part in a 30 mile commemorative run that morning starting and finishing at the Donington Park circuit. Here is one of those cars, pictured at McLean's Corner.
It's the 1913 Prince Henry Vauxhall of Roland Duce with what should be a 3,969cc straight-4 engine, but what the DVLA record says is 4½ litres.

On 5 November 2015 I showed a photograph of another of those cars, a 1906 Mercedes 60hp.

Alfa Romeo 8C 2300

This was in one of the car parks at the VSCC's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.
It's a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300, with a Vittorio Jano designed 2,336cc straight-8 engine. It was designed as a competition car, but a large number were also built as touring cars.

Friday's Ferrari

This is one of the cars that I photographed at the Ferrari Racing Days event at Silverstone in September 2017.
It's a Ferrari Mondial t Competizione, a car which was produced between 1988 and 1993 and had a 3,405cc V8 engine with twin overhead camshafts on each bank and four valves per cylinder.

Lister Jaguar Monza

This car competed in the Ron Flockhart Memorial Trophy Race at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.
It's the Lister Jaguar Monza of Rod Jolley, a car that was built in 1958 to compete in the Race of Two Worlds which pitted American Indianapolis cars against European cars on Monza's banked oval track. The race had been held in 1957 when the European cars, including Ecurie Ecosse D-Type Jaguars were soundly beaten so the following year Ecurie Ecosse built this single seater car based on a Lister chassis with a 3.8 litre Jaguar engine. The race was still dominated by the American team though. Construction of the Lister Jaguar was actually completed in the paddock at Monza and it ran in the unpainted finish seen here. For a time in the 1990s though it was painted in Ecurie Ecosse blue, and on 30 April 2016 I showed a photograph of the car as it appeared at Silverstone in 1999.

Jaguar XK120

Here are three Jaguar XK120s that took part in the AMOC '50s Sports Cars race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.
This is Andrew Wenman's 1952 car which the programme of the event says had a 3.8 litre engine instead of the 3.4 litre unit of the original XK120.

This is the 1951 car of Chris Keith-Lucas, again with the larger 3.8 litre engine.

This is another 1951 car, that of Simiak Siassi, and it's a replica of the three lightweight Jaguar XK120s that were prepared for the 1951 Le Mans 24 Hour race when it was thought that the new C-Types would not be ready in time. The XK120s did not race, however, as the C-Types were available for the race which was won by one of those cars, driven by Peter Walker and Peter Whitehead.

You can see all three of these cars in a couple of the photographs I took at Britten's chicane during the race when I featured an Austin Healey 100/4 on 7 March 2018, though Simiak Siassi's car is almost hidden behind a blue Jaguar XK140 Coupe.

Brabham BT33

I photographed this car during the Grand Prix Masters race at the Silverstone Historic Tribute meeting in June 2004.
It's the 1970 (though shown in the programme of the event as 1968) Brabham BT33 of Sid Hoole with a 2,993cc V8 Cosworth DFV engine, a car driven by Jack Brabham and Rolf Stommelen in the 1970 season. Jack Brabham finished in sixth place in the World Championship, winning the first race of the season in South Africa, and Rolf Stommelen eleventh. It may well be the same BT33 that I showed on 27 August 2018 that was driven by Duncan Dayton at Silverstone in 1999, and if so then it's chassis #BT33/1.

Kurtis 500S

I photographed this car at the Donington International Historic Grand Prix meeting in May 2004 where it took part in the HGPGA Race for Pre-1959 Drum-Braked Sports Cars.
It's the 1954 Kurtis 500S of Christopher Keen, and the only car in the programme of the event where the engine capacity is shown in cubic inches rather than cubic centimetres. It shows a capacity of 283 cu in (about 4.6 litres) which appears to indicate the Offenhauser 283 Chevrolet V8 Small Block engine.

Cadillac Series 60

This photograph was taken at a classic car show organised by car dealers Gordon Ford of Stockport in July 1987.
It's a 1938 Cadillac Series 60 powered by a 5,228cc V8 engine. The Series 60 was produced in Detroit, Michigan by General Motors from 1936 to 1938.

Lamborghini MurciƩlago

I came across this car amidst a host of Aston Martins at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.
It's a 2003 Lamborghini MurciƩlago with a 6,192cc V12 engine, 4,099 of which were built between 2001 and 2010. It was preceded by the Lamborghini Diablo and succeeded by the Lamborghini Aventador.

Friday's Ferrari

I photographed this car in the Ferrari Owners Club's area at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.
It's a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, chassis #4519GT, originally with the 2,953cc V12 engine which was later replaced with the 3,967cc V12 engine from a Ferrari 330 GT 2+2.

Lola Mk1 Prototype

This car took part in the 2¼ hour long Historic Motor Racing News Gentlemen Drivers race at the VSCC's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in May 2001.
It's the 1958 Lola Mk1 Prototype, driven in the race by Robert Hall and Richard Wills. Around 40 examples of the Mk1 were built between 1958 and 1962, originally with a 1,098cc Coventry Climax FWA engine, though this car has a 1,220cc unit according to the programme of the event. In the mid 1990s the car underwent an extensive overhaul by Hall & Hall, and on 18 September 2017 I showed a photograph taken in 2005 which shows how it looked afterwards.

Ford GTD 40

I photographed this car in one of the car parks at the VSCC's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2008.
It's a 1998 Ford GTD 40, a replica of a 1960s Ford GT40, and powered by a 4,942cc Ford Small Block engine.

Leyland Tiger PS1

This was one of the entrants in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1996.
It's a 1950 Leyland Tiger PS1 with a C35F Alexander body and powered by a 7.4 litre diesel engine. A note in the programme of the event reads as follows:

Leyland Tiger PS1, Alexander Body, 1950      CWG 206
Entered by    J Crankshaw, Meltham, Huddersfield
Although the Greater Manchester area was dominated by urban bus services, rural services were a way of life in some areas of the country. Walter Alexander and Sons Ltd of Falkirk ran buses in north east Scotland using vehicles such as this one. Alexander's buses were also used on express services from Scotland to other parts of Great Britain, including Manchester.

Jaguar XJR-12D

This car competed in the 2 hour long British Empire Trophy race for Group C Endurance Cars at the Silverstone Historic Festival meeting in August 2001.
It's the 1993 Jaguar XJR-12D of Nick Rini which was developed from the Group C XJR-12 for the US IMSA series. The XJR-12 was produced with a 7 litre V12 engine, but the programme of the Silverstone event quotes this car's capacity as 7.4 litres. There's a brief note about the car in the programme that says:

'The Silverstone grid will be graced by a pair of XJR-12s, one of them built for the IMSA series. This is the number 32 car, this weekend scheduled to be raced by Nick Rini and former Jaguar F1 test driver Tomas Scheckter,'

On 3 April 2017 I showed a photograph that I'd taken of what is apparently the same car at Donington Park in 2005 where it was described as a 1990 model.

Brough Superior SS100

When I attended the SeeRed meetings at Donington Park there was usually a display by H&H Auctioneers publicising a forthcoming auction with a display of vehicles. This was one of the vehicles shown at the SeeRed meeting in May 2011.
It's a 1938 Brough Superior SS100 built to special order with a 1,000cc JAP vee twin engine instead of the Matchless engine fitted to the standard Brough Superior SS100. It was offered for auction at the H&H Classics auction at Duxford on 21 September 2011.

Chevron B16

I took this photograph at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2008.
It's not listed in the programme of the event, but it's the 2 litre Ford Cosworth powered 1970 Chevron B16 of Jamie Boot. The B16 was designed by Derek Bennett to compete in the European 2 litre Championship series which it won by one point from Lola in 1970. I don't think the car competed at this Oulton Park meeting, but Jamie Boot took part in another race that day in a TVR Griffith 400.

Friday's Ferrari

This was one of the exhibits at the Footman James Classic Car Show Manchester at EventCity in September 2018.
It's a 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena, a car that was introduced in 1999 replacing the Ferrari F355 and was superseded by the Ferrari F430 in 2004. It has a 3,586cc V8 engine with twin overhead camshafts per bank and five valves per cylinder.

Lion-Peugeot Type VA

This is one of the entrants in the Lancashire Automobile Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in May 1992 and is seen in the Exchange Station car park in Manchester just before the start.
The information in the programme of the event is sparse - it just shows it as a 1907 Peugeot Tourer entered by Simon Timperley of Hollingworth, Hyde. It actually appears to be a Lion-Peugeot Type VA with a single cylinder 785cc engine.

McLaren M23

This car didn't take part in any of the races at the  Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000, but the meeting celebrated 50 years of Formula One racing and it was in a display of Formula One cars and also participated in a series of track demonstrations.
It's a 1976 McLaren M23, the car with which James Hunt won the 1976 World Drivers' Championship. The McLaren M23 had a 2,993 V8 Ford Cosworth engine and was raced by the McLaren team for five seasons from 1973, Emerson Fittipaldi winning the World Drivers' Championship in 1974, as well as finishing in second place in both 1973 and 1975. This photograph shows Lorina McLaughlin leaving the pit lane in the car on one of the demonstration runs.

On 11 April 2017 I showed two photographs of the car at the Silverstone Historic Tribute meeting in 2004.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider

This is McLeans Corner on the opening lap of the Equipe GTS race at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in June 2008.
Leading this group of cars is the 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider of Doug Martin, followed by a Triumph TR4, MGB, two MGAs and two Sunbeam Alpines. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider was produced from 1962 to 1966 and has a straight-4 twin cam 1.6 litre engine.

Fiat 508S Balilla

This car contested a handicap race and a scratch race at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
It's the 1935 Fiat 508S Balilla of Geoff Toms with what the programme of the event says is a 1,089cc unsupercharged engine. The Fiat 508 was produced between 1932 and 1937 and had a 995cc straight-4 sidevalve engine and three-speed gearbox. The 508S engine was upgraded with a four-speed gearbox and overhead valves in 1934, but there's no mention of the engine capacity being increased. It's successor in 1937, however, the Fiat Balilla 1100 (also known as the 508 C) had a 1,089cc overhead valve engine.

Bentley 4½ litre

This car competed in the two MicroProse Spirit of Speed Pre-War Sports Car Races that took place on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in 1999.
It's a Stanley Mann Racing 1931 supercharged Bentley 4½ litre and was driven in the races, the programme says, by Prof Dr Michael Rudnig and Stanley Mann. This car, chassis #MS3931 was originally built with a Weymann saloon body by Gurney Nutting, and the first owner was a James F Bryson. It was rebuilt in 1993/95 and fitted with the Le Mans replica body seen above.

Lancia D50

I took this photograph of one of the cars in a display in the Paddock Suite at Donington Park during the SeeRed meeting in September 2006.
Then in the Donington Park Collection, it's a recreation of a 2½ litre Formula One 1955 Lancia D50, one of six cars that were built around 20 years ago using original components that had been stored by Ferrari after the cars (by then designated the Ferrari 801) were dismantled at the end of the 1957 racing season. The car in the Donington Collection was the first of the recreations to be built and it has since been sold by the museum, and as far as I'm aware it's now in the USA and owned by Peter Giddings.

On 17 January 2017 I showed another photograph of the car that I'd taken at this meeting.

Incidentally, I learned recently that the Donington Park Museum closed on 5 November 2018, but what is to happen to the bulk of the exhibits is still uncertain. Some of the cars were on loan to the museum and will have been returned to the owners.
