1918 De Dion Bouton Model HD

The Vintage Sports Car Club's meetings at Oulton Park always included a Concours D'Elegance organised by the Cheshire Life magazine and the Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies meeting in May 2005 was no exception. This is one of the cars that I photographed amongst the cars gathered there.
It's not listed in the programme of the event, but it's a 1918 De Dion Bouton Model HD and has a 4-cylinder inline 2,940cc engine. The car was auctioned by Bonhams in March 2013 and here's the history of the car they provided at that time.

1935 Riley Imp

I took this photograph in part of the parking area set aside for various owners clubs at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
Amongst several other Rileys, this is a 1935 Riley Imp built on the Riley Nine chassis and using its 4-cylinder inline 1,087cc engine. The Riley Imp was produced from 1933 to 1935 but production figure records were destroyed during WW2 and it is estimated that about 120-150 cars were produced in those three years.

1903 Renault Type 10/12

This was one of the Cheshire Life Concours D'Elegance entrants at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005.
It's Tristan Jensen's 1903 Renault Type 10/12 which the programme of the event says has a 2-cylinder 1,800cc engine.

Vintage Sports Car Club racing 2006

I took this photograph at Britten's chicane during a 4 lap handicap race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
Leading is Robert Wardale in a 1936 Riley Special closely followed by Mark Butterworth in a 1921 Vauxhall E Type Velox. Behind them is Wayne Gibson in a 1937 Singer B37 Sports.

1959 Sadler MkIII

This car took part in the 1950s Sports Racing Cars race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005.
It's E.D.Butler's 1959 Sadler MkIII and was driven in the race by Martin Walford. The car was one of a small number of cars built by Canadian Bill Sadler, and according to the programme of the event this car has a 5,470cc Chevrolet V8 engine.

1958 Lister Jaguar

I took this photograph at Britten's chicane during the 50's Sports Car Race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
Leading is Stephen Gibson in his 1958 Lister Jaguar with Rupert Whyte in his 1958 Lotus Eleven behind him. Next is Barry Cannell in his 1956/57 Willment Climax followed by what may be Tim Llewellyn's 1956 Tojeiro Jaguar, and bringing up the rear is the 1955 Cooper T39 Bobtail of Adrian van der Kroft.

1959 Tec-Mec F415

This car competed in the Hawthorn Memorial Race at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies race meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
Shown in the programme of the event as a Technica Mechanica it's better known as the 1959 Tec-Mec F415 designed by Valerio Colotti as a lightweight version of the Maserati 250F. Colotti was employed by Maserati and was working on the design when Maserati pulled out of racing at the end of the 1958 season. He set up his own company, Studio Tecnica Meccanica, and Italian racing driver Giorgio Scarlatti encouraged him to continue with this work and bought shares in the company. American Gordon Pennington then persuaded Scarlatti to sell him the shares and arranged for Camoradi's Lucky Casner to run the team for what had now become Tec-Mec Automobili. When finished the car was entered for the 1959 US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen and Brazilian driver Fritz d'Orey was chosen to drive it. The car had clearly not gone through sufficient testing and Fritz d'Orey only qualified it in seventeenth place. It only lasted for six laps in the race before it retired with a serious oil leak and that turned out to be the only World Championship appearance by the car. It lingered in a Miami garage until 1967 when it was acquired by Tom Wheatcroft who brought the car back into working order and it was in his museum at Donington Park for many years. It was eventually sold to Barrie Baxter who drove the car at this Oulton Park meeting and raced it successfully before eventually passing the car on to Barry Wood.
Here's Barrie Baxter at Britten's chicane during the race followed by Duncan Ricketts in 'Mac' Hulbert's ERA R4D and Matt Gillies in Rodney Smith's ERA R3A. Behind them are the Kurtis Indy Roadster of Stuart Harper and the Cooper Bristol MkII of either Mary Grant-Jonkers or Paul Grant, who drove two identical cars in the race.

1914 Hupmobile Model 32 Tourer

I photographed this car at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophy race meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005.
It's a 1914 Hupmobile Model 32 Tourer, and looks as if it should be one of the entrants in the Cheshire Life Concours D'Elegance competition, but it isn't listed as such in the programme of the event. The Hupp Motor Company was founded in Detroit in 1909 by Bobby Hupp and Charles Hastings and began production with the Hupp 20 which continued until 1913. In 1912 the Hupp 32 (also known as the Model H) was introduced which, according to the DVLA record for this car, has an engine capacity of 3,200cc (and the DVLA record says that the vehicle is currently still being taxed). There is a Hupmobile Club for owners and enthusiasts.

1903 Gamage Aster 6½hp

This car was amongst a display of veteran and vintage vehicles at the VSCC's Boulogne And Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005, although it wasn't listed as an entrant in the Cheshire Life Concours D'Elegance.
It's a 1903 Gamage Aster 6½hp, a car manufactured by the Parisian firm Lacoste et Battman with an Aster engine and marketed by the London department store A W Gamage Ltd. The car is still registered with the DVLA who say that the engine capacity is 748cc. HY 689 was offered for auction by Bonhams in 2008 and apparently sold for £65,300.

1909 Rover

I photographed this car at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
The only note I made at the time is that it was a 1909 Rover and I can't ascertain whether it's a Rover 15 or a Rover 20. Both cars have a 4-cylinder inline engine, the Rover 15 being a 15 hp 2,450cc unit whereas the Rover 20 is a 20 hp car with a capacity of 3,251cc. From photographs I've seen I'm inclined to believe that it's a Rover 20.

OSCA MT4

This car took part in the Drum Braked Cars class of the 1950s Sports Racing Cars race at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005.
It's the 1953/58 OSCA MT4 of Tony Bailey, chassis #1126, and was built in 1953 with removable cycle wings so it could be used in both Formula 2 and Sportscar racing. It was rebuilt in its current form in 1959 and apparently had a 1,600cc Alfa Romeo engine fitted, which Historics Auctioneers said was still in the vehicle when it was put up for auction in 2014. The programme for this Oulton Park event, however, says that it has a 1,498cc engine.
Here's Tony Bailey at Britten's Chicane during the race leading the 1954 Frazer Nash Sebring of William Ainscough and the 1957 Lotus Eleven of John Gray.

Fiat 508S Balilla

This car contested a handicap race and a scratch race at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
It's the 1935 Fiat 508S Balilla of Geoff Toms with what the programme of the event says is a 1,089cc unsupercharged engine. The Fiat 508 was produced between 1932 and 1937 and had a 995cc straight-4 sidevalve engine and three-speed gearbox. The 508S engine was upgraded with a four-speed gearbox and overhead valves in 1934, but there's no mention of the engine capacity being increased. It's successor in 1937, however, the Fiat Balilla 1100 (also known as the 508 C) had a 1,089cc overhead valve engine.

Darracq

This car was one of the entrants in the Concours at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
The only information in the programme of the event is that it's Robert Hassell-Gibson's 1914 Darracq Sports with a 4 litre engine. The DVLA record says that it's a Darracq V14 and has a 2,366cc engine, but then it also says that the car is blue (I suppose it may have had a repaint since 2006) and that it was built in 1921, which is clearly not so.

Peugeot 148

This car took part in a 4 lap handicap race at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005.
It's the 1913 Peugeot 148 of Clive Press, originally built with a 4,536cc 4-cylinder engine, but now with a 9,934cc 4-cylinder Hall-Scott A-7 aero engine.
Here's Clive Press at Britten's chicane during the race leading the 1928 Riley Brooklands of John Williams and the 1927 Alvis 12/50 SD Sports of Robert Glover.

Renault KJ1

I photographed this car in the paddock at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
It's a 1924 Renault KJ1, an updated version of the KJ, the two cars being produced from 1923 to 1924 in the Renault factory at Billancourt. It has a 6CV 4-cylinder inline engine with a capacity of 951cc.

Hispano Delage 500CV

This car competed in the Boulogne Trophy Race at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005.
It's described in the programme of the event as a 1926/30 27 litre Delage/Hispano Single Seater, entered and driven in the race by Robin Baker. It seems to be better known as a Hispano Delage 500CV and is a 1926 Delage with a 1930 Hispano Suiza 27 litre V12 aero engine, the Type 57 12Mb, developing some 500 hp.
Here's Robin Baker at Britten's chicane during the race.

On 7 November 2016 I showed a photograph of another Hispano Suiza engined Delage, the Bequet Delage of Alexander Boswell, at Donington Park in 2007.

Steyr Puch 500

I photographed this car at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
It's a Steyr Puch 500, and the 'M' on the number plate suggests that it was first registered between 1 August 1973 and 31 July 1974. The MoT record says that it was registered in May 1974, but that the date of manufacture was 1972. The Steyr Puch 500 was introduced in 1957 and used the Fiat 500 body with Steyr Puch's own two-cylinder flat 500cc engine. Production of the 500 continued until 1975.

Stanley Steamer

This was one of the Concours D'Elegance entrants at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005.
It's Mark Clark's 20hp 1907 Stanley Steamer H5 but, apart from a list of the Concours entrants, there's no mention of it in the programme of the meeting.
I came across the car being driven round the paddock a couple of times during the day.
The chassis number is 3708, and it's listed here in the Stanley Register Online. In September 2007 it took part in an 40 mile run of Edwardian cars from Donington Park, and on 17 March 2016 I showed a photograph that I took in the paddock on that occasion.
