Friday's Ferrari

I took this photograph at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997 where there was a special display of Ferraris, and the GT race which was a feature of these Coys meetings was reserved for Ferraris with 30 listed in the programme of the event, including 11 of the 250 GTO cars.

This car wasn't listed amongst those taking part in that GT race, but it's the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO of Harry Leventis, chassis 3505GT. Originally built for the British UDT Laystall team, and still bearing their pale green colours, the car was intended to be driven by Stirling Moss, but his career ending accident at Goodwood in April 1962 meant that he never actually got to drive the car in competition. Innes Ireland took his place and won the Tourist Trophy race at Goodwood in August 1992. The car has, of course, the Gioacchino Colombo designed 2,953cc V12 tipo 168 engine.

Car number 61 behind the 250 GTO is the 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, chassis 5031GT, of Richard Taylor that was driven by Barrie Williams in the GT race.

Friday's Ferrari

I photographed this car in the Ferrari Owners Club's area at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.

It's a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, chassis #4519GT, originally with the 2,953cc V12 engine which was later replaced with the 3,967cc V12 engine from a Ferrari 330 GT 2+2.

Friday's Ferrari

This car took part in the Coys of Kensington Pre-1964 GT Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1999.

It's the 1963 Ferrari 250GT Lusso of Paul Osborn, chassis #5031GT, with the 3 litre V12 engine used by all the Ferrari 250 range. The programme of the event lists the drivers of this car as Tony Dron and Paul Osborn, but the barchetta.cc record says the driver was Terry Hoyle.

Friday's Ferrari

This is another model in the 250GT range, the Ferrari 250GT Lusso. This particular car, serial number 5031GT is seen here at Silverstone at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting in August 1996. The car was entered in the 'Coys of Kensington GT Race' by the owner Richard Taylor and was driven in the race by Peter Sugden and Lincoln Small. Although the Wikipedia article says that production of the Lusso didn't start till 1963 the programme of the event says that the car is a 1962 model, which tends to support the view of Peter Coltrin in the Wikipedia article that 'construction of the 250 GT Lusso must have begun soon after the presentation of the prototype of the Paris Motor Show' (in October 1962).
