Friday's Ferrari

This is a photograph that I took in the Ferrari Owners Club's area in the paddock at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998.

It's a Vignale bodied 1953 Ferrari 166MM with a Gioacchino Colombo designed 1,995cc V12 engine. The original owner was Porfirio Rubirosa, and its owner at the time of this Silverstone meeting was Bernard Worth who had owned the car since 1960. The chassis number has been changed a couple of times and it appears to now be 0308M, but the history of the car is shown on the barchetta.cc file for chassis 0328M.

I photographed this car in the Ferrari Owners Club's area at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998.

It's a 1995 Ferrari F50, chassis #103496, and has a 4,699cc V12 Ferrari Tipo F130B engine. It was bought new by Ian Hetherington and campaigned by him in the Goodyear Maranello Ferrari Challenge races, winning the series in 2000.

I photographed this car in the Ferrari Owners Club's area at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997.

It's the 1959 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione of Anthony Dyas, and despite the number 157 on the door of the car it didn't take part in any of the races at this meeting. This is the competition version of the Ferrari 250 GT, one of 74 built by Scaglietti, with an aluminium alloy body and the Colombo designed 2,953cc V12 engine. It is chassis #2129GT and was originally owned by Jacques Swaters' Ecurie Francorchamps, Willy Mairesse and Georges Berger taking first place with the car in the 1960 Tour de France race. Ecurie Francorchamps later merged with Johnny Claes' Ecurie Belge to form Equipe Nationale Belge.

This car was in the Ferrari Owners Club area at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998.

It's the 1952 Ferrari 225 Sport Spyder of David Vine, and  it is chassis #0198ET, with bodywork by Carrozzeria Vignale. It was a development of the Ferrari 212 Export and powered by the same Gioacchino Colombo-designed  V12 engine enlarged to 2,715cc. There were 21 examples of the 225 S built, with a mix of Berlinetta and Spyder bodies and coachwork by both Vignale and Touring.

Friday's Ferrari

This car was lined up alongside several other Ferraris at the Ferrari Owners Club's area in the paddock at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997.

It appears to be the replica of a 1961 Ferrari 250 TRI/61 that was created together with a 1961 Ferrari 156 F1 car for Chris Rea's film 'La Passione' about Wolfgang von Trips. That car was built using Chris Rea's own 1966 Ferrari 330 GTC chassis #9251 as a donor car.

I photographed this car in the Ferrari Owners' Club area in the paddock at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.

It's a 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Barchetta, chassis #0136E with bodywork by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan. It has a 2,563cc V12 engine designed by Gioacchino Colombo and was first owned by Bobby Baird from Northern Ireland, who with Jean Lucas finished in sixth place with the car in the 1951 Tourist Trophy race at Dundrod, winning the 3 litre class.

I photographed this car in the paddock taking part in a Ferrari Owners' Club Concours d'Elegance event at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.

It's the 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione of Stuart Passey, chassis #2209GT. This is the competition version of the Ferrari 250 GT, one of 74 built by Scaglietti, with an aluminium alloy body and the Colombo designed 2,953cc V12 engine. The car was originally sold to Ardilio Tavoni, apparently an agent for Jo Schlesser who a few days after the purchase drove the car to third place in the 1,000km of Montlhery partnered by André Simon. 

Friday's Ferrari

This car was part of the Ferrari Owners' Club's contingent at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997.

It's a 1950 Ferrari, chassis 0060M, originally built with a 1,995cc V12 engine as a 166 Sport Touring Berlinetta but later upgraded to a 195 by the factory and given the larger 2,341cc engine. The car competed in the 1950 Le Mans 24 Hour race driven by Raymond Sommer and Dorino Serafini but failed to finish the race.

This car was in the Ferrari Owners Club's area at the Historic Tribute meeting at Silverstone in June 2004.

It's a Ferrari Enzo, also known as a Ferrari F60, a car that was produced by Ferrari between 2002 and 2004. It was named after Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the company, and has the 5,999cc V12 Tipo F140 engine.

I photographed this car in the Ferrari Owners Club's area at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.

It's a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, chassis #4519GT, originally with the 2,953cc V12 engine which was later replaced with the 3,967cc V12 engine from a Ferrari 330 GT 2+2.

Friday's Ferrari

I took this photograph in the area set aside for members of the Ferrari Owners Club at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995.

Originally a 1947 Ferrari 125 Spyder #01C it competed in various races, including the 1947 Mille Miglia in the hands of Franco Cortese and was also driven at Livorno by Tazio Nuvolari. Following an accident in practice at Modena when being driven by Fernandino Righetti it was rebuilt as a 166 Spyder Corsa and renumbered as #010I. On 6 July 2012 I showed an almost identical photograph of this car that I'd taken earlier at the meeting, at which time I'd not been able to confirm if it was an original car or a replica.

I took this photograph outside the Ferrari Owners Club marquee at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000.

It's Bernard Worth's 1953 Ferrari 166MM Vignale Spyder, originally chassis number 0328M but re-numbered to 0050M and then again to 0308M. Bernard Worth bought the car in 1960 and was still to be seen driving the car in April this year at Castle Combe at the age of 83.

It's Fred Lindkvist's 1957 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta TdF, chassis number 0781GT. There are 4 versions of the TdF, defined by the number of louvres in the sail panel behind the door windows: no louvres, 14 louvres, 3 louvres and 1 louvre. This car is one of the 3 louvre models.

This car was part of the display at the Ferrari Owners Club area at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000.

It's a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione, serial number 2735GT, and is the Rob Walker entered car with which Stirling Moss won the 1961 Tourist Trophy race at Goodwood. The car was rebodied by Piero Drogo after competing in the 1962 Tourist Trophy race, but was restored in stages from the 1970s, the complete restoration being finished in 2009. I showed photographs on 2 May 2014 of the car that received the Drogo body from this car as a result of the restoration.

This is a car I photographed in the Ferrari Owners Club area at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998.

It's a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione, serial number 2209GT. Originally owned by Jo Schlesser and at the time of the Silverstone meeting by Stuart Passey, it's now in the USA having been sold at a Sotheby's auction in 2007.

I took this photograph in the Ferrari Owners Club parking area in the paddock at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.

I couldn't find out anything about it at the time and as the proportions of the car didn't seem to be quite right I labelled it as a 'Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Replica'. I now find that it started off life as a 1964 Ferrari 330GT 2+2, but was later 'rebodied, by Jim Rose, UK as TR/59'. The serial number of that Ferrari 330GT was 6481GT.

It's a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder, serial number 1411GT, owned at that time by Martin G Emmison. As the name suggests the car was designed mainly for the North American market.

This is a photograph taken inside the marquee of the Ferrari Owners Club at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1994.

It's the Ferrari 312 B3 driven by Clay Regazzoni in the 1974 racing season, owned in 1994 by Lord Brocket. Its serial number is 014 1974.
