1928/31 Austin 7

This car competed in a handicap race at the Vintage Sports Car Club’s Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in June 1981.

It’s a 1928/31 Austin 7 and the only information about it in the programme of the event is that it was entered by D.K.Ulph and had a 750cc supercharged engine.

1927/31 Austin 7

This is a photograph I took during a scratch race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in July 1987.

It's the 1927/31 Austin 7 of A J Spence which has a 4 cylinder inline 747cc engine, and the photograph was taken on the exit from Lodge Corner. Some 290,000 Austin Sevens were produced between 1923 and 1939.

VSCC Racing

I took this photograph at the start of a scratch race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015.

The blue car leading is the 1934 Frazer Nash Norris Special of Julian Grimwade ahead of, on the left, Tony Lees in the 1925 AC/GN Cognac. The red car behind the Norris Special is the 1935 Wolseley Hornet Special of Tim Greenhill with Christian Pedersen bringing up the rear in his 1932 Austin 7 Special, 'Miss Green'.

1937 Austin 7 Ruby

This is one of the participants in a Vintage and Historic Vehicle Display & Run organised by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1987.

It's a 1937 Austin 7 Ruby saloon and has the 4-cylinder inline 747cc engine. It's the second version of the Ruby that was produced from 1936 to 1939.

1936 Austin 7 'Miss Green'

This car competed in what was billed as a Pre-War Team Challenge race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2017.

It's Christian Pedersen's 1936 Austin 7 with a 4-cylinder inline 747cc engine.

The programme of the event doesn't say that it is supercharged, but it apparently has a Lancia Volumex supercharger.

Here's Christian Pedersen at Druids Corner during the morning qualifying session. The car has 'Miss Green' painted on the engine cover, but I've been unable to find out anything about 'Miss Green'.

 This is 'Miss Green' at the exit of Britten's chicane during the race. All the car was originally painted in the same dark green colour as the engine cover.

Austin 7

This is one of the cars taking part in the Lancashire Automobile Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1993, and it's pictured at the start of the run at the Village Hotel, Cheadle, Stockport.

It's an Austin 7 Tourer with a 4-cylinder inline 747cc engine, and the only information about it in the programme of the event is that it's a 1929 Austin Sports entered by a Mrs Hilda Moores of Denton, Manchester, presumably the lady in the passenger seat. I can't tell whether the registration number is JG 351 or JG 851, but the DVLA record doesn't recognise either of those numbers.

Guernsey May 2014

Over to Guernsey again last week to see grandson Edward and join in the Liberation Day celebrations - the 69th anniversary of the liberation of Guernsey from Hitler's Nazis on 9th May 1945.

It's only 2 months since we were last there but Edward's seems to have changed such a lot in that time. This is his multi-purpose gesture apparently signifying "What do I do now?", "I've finished doing that", "Look what I did" or "I didn't do that" as appropriate.

The cavalcade of vehicles of the Guernsey Old Car Club and the Guernsey Military Vehicles Group was led by the RAF Lossiemouth Pipes & Drums band.

The vehicles in the parade included this Jaguar XK120 from the early 1950s....

We came home on the Sunday evening flight to Manchester and the clear and sunny weather allowed me to take this photograph of the west coast of Guernsey shortly after take-off.

Guernsey Classic Vehicle Club Show 24 June 2012

Here's some more photographs that I took of the cars on display at the 2012 show. I didn't note any details of the cars at the time so I'm relying on my knowledge of older cars (with a little help from Google searches) to say what the cars are.

The right-hand car's an Austin 7 from the mid-1930s, but I'm not too sure about the one on the left. It's a Morris, probably a Major, from the early 1930s.

This is obviously a Rolls Royce and I think the Twenty was the only one made with the horizontal radiator slats. It dates from the mid 1920s.

It's difficult to differentiate between some of the T-type MGs but I think that this is a TA, produced between 1936 and 1939. Bad composition - the bouncy castle is behind the MG, not on top of the roof!

The Humber Sceptre was produced between 1963 and 1976 and this is a Mk2 which was in production from 1965 to 1967.

Another MG, this time a Y-type, although whether it's a YA or YB I can't tell. The YA was made between 1947 and 1951 and the YB from 1951 to 1953.

Ashton-under-Lyne Car Show 12 Aug 2012
