McLaren M1B

This car competed in the HSCC Atlantic Computers Historic GT Championship race at the Historic Sports Car Club's Spring Historic Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 1986.
It's the PAO Preparations Ltd's 1966 McLaren M1B, driven in the race by Jeffrey Johnstone. The programme of the event says that it had a 5 litre engine, and as the M1B was originally designed to accommodate a 5 litre Traco-Oldsmobile V8 that's possibly the engine that powered this car.

I've featured the McLaren M1B several times previously, the last time on 27 June 2017.

Friday's Ferrari

The Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997 featured an extensive display of Ferraris, some of which took part in demonstration runs round the circuit during the two-day meeting. Here is one of the cars that took part in those demonstrations.
It's the 2,992cc flat-12 Ferrari 312 T4 (chassis #040) with which Jody Scheckter, who is driving the car on this demonstration run, won the World Championship in 1979. Jody Scheckter won 3 of the 15 races finishing ahead of his team-mate Gilles Villeneuve, who also won 3 races, in the final table. Alan Jones in the Williams FW07 won 4 races, but the only other points he scored were for a 3rd and a 4th place so he only managed to finish the season in 3rd place in the Championship.

On 15 January 2016 I showed another photograph of this car at the Coys meeting at Silverstone in 2000.

Lagonda 14/60

I took this photograph at the Exchange Station car park in Manchester before the start of the Lancashire Automobile Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1986.
It's Ron Taylor's 1927 Lagonda 14/60 Tourer, and the programme of the event said this about it:

'98   1927 Lagonda 14/60 Tourer
         Reg: TR 3270  4 cylinder 12.9 hp
         1954cc
         (Ron Taylor, Clifton, Preston)
Well-known and noteworthy Lagonda, successful in the early 1930s when owned by W H Graham Tom of Bodmin. In three years it won gold, silver and bronze medals in the Lands End Trial, a gold medal in the London to Edinburgh Trial and the premier award in the Lands End to John O'Groats Trial. Tom, in fact, owned the car until 1964 (it was even used as a tractor during the war!) and it underwent a total restoration between 1965 and 1975 finally being painted in Tom's original beige and brown livery. Last year it won the road event in its class on this run.'

There's a Lagonda Club for owners of, or people with an interest in, Lagonda cars.

On 2 August 2016 I showed photographs of several Lagonda cars, including a 14/60 model, that I'd taken at Oulton Park in July 2015.

Wolseley Hornet Special

These two cars took part in the 'up to 3 hours' long Pre-War Sports Car Team Relay Race at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.
They are both 1934 Wolseley Hornet Specials, the one on the left owned, according to the programme of the event, by J A Seber and driven in the race by Mrs Anne Templeton, and the one on the right owned by T A Lovett and driven by John Seber. The Wolseley Hornet Special was produced from 1932 to 1936 with a straight-6 single overhead camshaft engine of either 1,271cc or 1,604cc, and DSJ 515 has the 1,604cc engine but the programme shows JSV 774 to have a capacity of 1,680cc. There's a Wolseley Register for owners of all Wolseley cars and a Wolseley Hornet Special Club specifically for owners of that model.

ERA R14B

This was one of the competitors in the Historic Trophy Race at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in June 1982.
It's Donald Day's 1937/36 ERA R14B, originally built for pre-war voiturette racing with a supercharged 1½ litre straight-6 engine based on the one that powered the Riley 9, but later changed for a 2 litre supercharged engine. The programme of the event said this about the 11 ERAs that contested this race:

'All being well one foresees a closely fought struggle for the lead in this race between the Hon. Patrick Lindsay's 2 litre ERA Remus, second in the Historic Race at Monaco last month and the first prewar car to finish, Martin Morris's R11B, which he calls Humphrey, Donald Day's R14B, the last B-type ERA made, and R4D, the highly developed ex-Raymond Mays car belonging to Anthony Bamford and driven by Willie Green. Donald is ex-Navy and Willie is fairly outspoken, so what they call their cars is probably not printable.
Sir John Venables-Llewelyn, whose early car R4A also has a 2 litre engine like the above, should go equally well when its engine is properly run in, which it patently wasn't at Donington last month. Patrick Lindsay in  Remus and Martin Morris in Humphrey have each won the Historic Seaman Trophy seven times in the past.
Of the 1½ litre ERAs of Messrs Morris, Marsh, Mann, Classic, Spollon and Tony Stephens, the last three have the possibly doubtful advantage of independent front suspension, not that this is intended as a criticism of the cars the majority of spectators have turned up in today. Bill Morris caused a sensation in the Historic Race at Monaco by stopping in the Casino Square during the race, getting out and borrowing a tool from one of the firemen, mending his car, and then getting in again after starting his engine by swinging the starting handle.'

NB: The 1½ litre cars listed above were respectively R12B, R1B, R9B, R2A, R8C and R12C.

I've previously shown photographs of R14B on 22 May 2016 and 20 September 2016.

Peugeot 202

This vehicle was displayed by one of the many car clubs scattered around the infield at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995.
It's a 1949 Peugeot 202, a car produced from 1938 to 1949 with a brief interruption for the latter part of the Second World War. It had a 1,133cc straight-4 engine with a 3 speed gearbox.

Cooper T53

This is a photograph I took at Aintree on the practice day for the Aintree 200 race in April 1961.
It's the 1961 1½ litre Climax-engined Cooper T53, chassis #F1-3-61 entered by the Camoradi team and driven by Masten Gregory who started in 26th place on the grid (not having posted a practice time) but ended the race in 5th place. The Camoradi team was founded by American Lloyd Casner (CAsner MOtor RAcing DIvision) and is probably better known for its efforts in sports car racing, particularly with the Maserati T61 with which Stirling Moss and Dan Gurney won the 1960 Nürburgring 1,000 km race.

On 31 March 2016 I showed a photograph of another Cooper T53 that took part in this race, the Rob Walker car driven by Stirling Moss (chassis #F1-7-61) which only lasted for two laps.

Maserati 300 S

I took these photographs at the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association's International Historic Grand Prix meeting at Donington Park in May 2004.
This is the 1955 Maserati 300 S of José Albuquerque, chassis #3054. The Maserati 300 S has a 3 litre straight-6 engine based on the 2½ litre unit of the 250F Grand Prix car with a lengthened stroke, and competed in the World Sportscar Championship races from 1955 to 1957. This particular car was very successful, being victorious in the hands of Jean Behra, Luigi Musso, Juan Fangio and Stirling Moss amongst others. It subsequently passed through various hands, including Lord Charles Brocket (who thankfully didn't do any lasting damage to the car) before being acquired by José Albuquerque, and is currently owned by Stephan Rettenmaier.
Here's José Albuquerque at the Old Hairpin during the HGPCA Race for Pre-1959 Drum-Braked Sports Cars behind the 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC of David Cottingham and leading the 1955 Lister Bristol of Tony Wood.

Friday's Ferrari

This car competed in the Cheshire Building Society Allcomers Race at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in July 1987.
It's Neil Corner's 1960 Ferrari Dino 246, the last successful front-engined F1 car. It was originally chassis #0007, later renumbered #0788F, the car with which Phil Hill won the 1960 Italian Grand Prix. I've featured this car several times previously, most recently on 11 August 2017.

Jaguar XJR-11

This was one of the display cars at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1994.
It's a 1989 3½ litre V6 Jaguar XJR-11, a car designed to compete in the 1989 World Sports Prototype Championship series, winning only the Silverstone round in 1990 in the hands of Martin Brundle in the two years that it competed in the Championship.

On 3 December 2016 I showed a photograph of one of these cars at Donington in 2005.

Reliant Kitten

I took the photographs of this car in a local supermarket car park in August last year.
It's a 1976 Reliant Kitten Estate, a car produced from 1975 to 1982 with Reliant's own light alloy 4 cylinder inline 848cc engine.
There's a Reliant Kitten Register for owners of all 4 wheel under 1 litre Reliant cars.

On 31 December 2016 I showed photographs of a Reliant Kitten, and other Reliants, at the Footman James Classic Car Show Manchester in 2016.

Tec-Mec Maserati F415

This was one of the competitors in the Ron Flockhart Memorial Trophy Race for Pre 61 Racing Cars at the VSCC's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophy meeting at Donington Park in May 2001.
It's the 1959 Tec-Mec F415, the last evolution of the Maserati 250F which had begun with the start of the 2½ litre F1 Formula in 1954. The car only competed in one World Championship race - the 1959 USA Grand Prix - retiring very early in that race, and its full history was related by Bonhams when it was offered for auction in 2003. The car was entered for this Donington Park race in 2001 by Barrie Baxter.

On 23 July 2015 I showed three photographs of the car that I'd taken over a period of some 36 years.

Alfa Romeo TZ

This was one of the cars offered in the auction that took place during the weekend of the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1993.
It's an Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ, a car developed by Alfa Romeo in conjunction with Autodelta and had a 1,570cc four cylinder inline twin-cam engine. The original model, sometimes known as the TZ1, was produced from 1963 to 1965 when a revised model, the TZ2, was introduced.

On 14 December 2014 I showed a photograph of 3 Alfa Romeos, including a 1965 TZ2, at the 1995 Coys meeting at Silverstone.

Aston Martin DB2/4

This car competed in the 20 minute long Pre-1961 Sports & GT Cars Race at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.
It's Mark Campbell's 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 which according to the programme of the event has a 2,988cc engine. The DB2/4 was introduced in 1953, originally with a 2,580cc engine, later models having a 2,922cc unit. A revised Mark II version was introduced in 1955.
Here's Mark Campbell at McLeans corner during the race.

On 3 October 2015 I showed a photograph of another Aston Martin DB2/4 that took part in this race - that one being driven by James Cambell. Presumably there's some family connection there.

Friday's Ferrari

This was one of the many Ferraris present at the Ferrari Racing Days meeting at Silverstone in September 2017.
It's a 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB, a car introduced in 2015 and which is powered by the Ferrari F154 CB twin turbo 3,902cc V8 engine.

Leyland Titan PD2/11

This bus is pictured in Heaton Park, Manchester where it took part in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in September 1998.
It's an ex-Leeds Corporation Transport 1955 Leyland Titan PD2/11 with a Roe H33/25R body and the Leyland O.600 straight-six 9.8 litre diesel engine. The programme of the event said this about the vehicle:

Leyland PD2/11   Charles H Roe   1955                                                                  UUA 207
Entered by        Robert Murray, Leeds
New to Leeds Corporation Transport this is a very rare model of which only 20 were built, all 20 being supplied to Leeds, fitted with semi-automatic pneumocyclic transmission and air brakes. Bought for preservation in 1982 from a gliding club who were about to convert it to a towing winch. Now restored to mid 60's livery with period adverts.

Bentley 4½ litre

This car was one of the competitors at the Aston Martin Owners Club's AMOC Racing meeting at Oulton Park in May 2017 in what the programme of the event called a Pre-War Team Challenge race.
It's the 1928 4½ litre Bentley of  Guy Northam, although the actual capacity of the engine is 4,398cc. The 4½ litre was produced from 1927 to 1931,  with a supercharged model (popularly known as the Blower Bentley) introduced in 1929.
The Vintage Bentleys website gives the chassis number as RN3042 and the engine number as PM3263.
Here's Guy Northam at Druids Corner during the morning practice session.....
....and here he is at Britten's chicane during the race.

Cooper T39 Bobtail

I took this photograph in the pit lane during a practice session at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2008.
There's no number 218 listed in the programme of the event, but in the one hour long BRDC Historic Sportscars race, where cars generally have a co-driver, the programme has a Cooper T39 Bobtail number 18 with the drivers shown to be John Clark and 'tba'. I suspect that this is John Clark's Cooper, and that the lady in the cockpit is Emma-Jane Gilbart-Smith who has co-driven with John Clark in other events. I'd be grateful if someone could confirm or correct this for me.

Maserati Sebring

This car was in the area set aside for the Maserati Club at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.
It's a 1964 Maserati Sebring Series I, a car that was introduced in 1962 eventually replacing the 3500 GT which had been in production since 1957. It had the same 3½ litre straight-6 engine, but with fuel injection, and when the Series II car was introduced in 1965 alternative 3.7 litre and 4 litre engines were available.

Hawthorn Memorial & Spanish Trophies Race 2015

The Vintage Sports Car Club's meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015 included the Hawthorn Memorial & Spanish Trophies Race for Pre-1961 Racing Cars and here are some of the cars which took part in that race.
This is the start of the race, viewed from near to Lodge Corner, the last corner on the circuit. The green seating you can see on the left of the photograph is the grandstand at Old Hall Corner - the first corner on the circuit.
The remaining photographs were taken at Lodge Corner, and this is the 4.2 litre 1957 Kurtis Indy-Roadster, entered by Stuart Harper and driven by Frederick Harper, that I featured on 1 December 2014.
This is the 2 litre supercharged 1935 ERA R4A of Nicholas Topliss, and on 3 May 2015 I showed a photograph of this car at Oulton Park in 1987 when it was owned by Sir John Venables-Llewelyn.
Another ERA, this time the 1½ litre supercharged 1936 ERA R10B of Paddins Dowling, which I've not featured before, and the ERA Club records its previous ownership as follows:

R10B
P N Whitehead      1936       to            1952
R D P Wilkinson   1952       to            1957
J A Williamson      1957       to            1976
J E Finn                 1976       to            1980
N B Mason            1980       to            2005
P P Dowling           2005       to            date
Not shown in the programme of the event, but it's the 1,098cc 1959 Formula Junior Gemini Mk2 of Graham Barron.
This is the 1½ litre supercharged 1935 MG Bellevue Special of Thomas Hardman. On 8 October 2015 I showed a photograph of this car (and other MGs) in the paddock at this meeting. Bonhams recorded its history when the car was put up for auction in 2014.
Robert Longdon's 1960 1,098cc Formula Junior Lola Mk2
William Grimshaw's 1,086cc 1959 Formula Junior Moorland Mk2, which I featured with other Formula Junior cars on 26 March 2017.
The 747cc 1932 Austin 7 Special of Christian Pedersen. When I've seen this car previously it was painted green, but now only the bonnet cover remains green.
Matt Ricketts in father Duncan's 1957 Cooper T41. The T41 was Cooper's first step in Formula 2 racing which only two years later led to Jack Brabham winning the World Championship in the 2½ litre Formula 1 Cooper Climax T51. The programme of the event says that Duncan Ricketts' car has an engine capacity of 1,220cc which seems strange as is doesn't fit any racing Formula that I'm familiar with.

King EE V8

On 17 March 2016 I showed a photograph taken at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007 of a Stanley Steamer that had taken part in an Edwardian Run that had first been held two years earlier to mark the centenary of the first Grand Prix race at Dieppe in 1905. Here's another of the cars that took part in that run in 2007.
I tagged the car as a 1917 King EE V8, but I don't know where I got this information from as there's no details of the cars taking part in the programme of the SeeRed meeting. The only details I can find of the King Motor Car Company is that it was set up in 1911 and the V8 engine, created in 1914, had a capacity of 283 cu in, or 4.6 litres.

Friday's Ferrari

These two cars were displayed at the Footman James Classic Car Show at EventCity, Manchester in September 2017.
2000 Ferrari 360 Modena, introduced in 1999.
2004 Ferrari 360 Spider, introduced in 2000.

The Ferrari 360 replaced the 355, and was in turn succeeded by the 430 in 2004. The 360 Modena and Spider shared the same 3,586cc V8 engine with twin overhead camshafts and five valves per cylinder.

Tyrrell 009

This car contested the Grand Prix Masters F1 Cars 1966-1985 race at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.
It's the 3 litre V8 Ford Cosworth engined 1979 Tyrrell 009 of Peter Orlando and was driven in the race by Bill Combs. Tyrrell competed with the 009 in whole of the 1979 season and the first two races of the 1980 season, but the best results they could manage were two third places each for Didier Pironi and Jean-Pierre Jarier in the 1979 season.

Austin Healey 100/4

This car competed in the AMOC '50s Sports Cars race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.
It's Martyn Corfield's 1954 Austin Healey 100/4 with a 2,660cc inline 4 cylinder engine, a replica of the car that Donald Healey took to the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1954 and with a team of drivers including Carroll Shelby set 83 National and International speed records. The effects of the Bonneville salt on the original car led to it being scrapped in 1957, and the creation of this replica started in 2007 using many of the modifications fitted to the Bonneville record car. Those 1954 record breaking efforts also led to the production of the racing version of the 100/4, the Austin Healey 100S which incorporated many of those modifications.
The two photographs above and below were taken at Old Hall Corner during the morning practice session.

This photograph and the one below were taken at Britten's chicane during the race. Here Martyn Corfield leads the 1952 Jaguar XK120 of Andrew Wenman, the 1959 Jaguar XK150 of Andrew Moore and the 1955 Jaguar XK140 of Alexis de Beaumont.
Later in the race Martyn Corfield leads the 1951 Jaguar XK120 of Chris Keith-Lucas and the 1959 Jaguar XK150 of Andrew Moore.
