McLaren M1B

This car competed in the HSCC Atlantic Computers Historic GT Championship race at the Historic Sports Car Club's Spring Historic Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 1986.
It's the PAO Preparations Ltd's 1966 McLaren M1B, driven in the race by Jeffrey Johnstone. The programme of the event says that it had a 5 litre engine, and as the M1B was originally designed to accommodate a 5 litre Traco-Oldsmobile V8 that's possibly the engine that powered this car.

I've featured the McLaren M1B several times previously, the last time on 27 June 2017.

  1. Stumbled on this picture today. Brought back happy memories. Although no longer working with the team when this picture was taken I had worked previously with them.
Went to Pau in '85 and Belgian Grand Prix.
The engine was a Chevrolet based 5 litre, revved I think to 9200, pretty racy.
The team was run by John Clark, centre of van doorway. Very clever man.
