I took this photograph at the Exchange Station car park in Manchester before the start of the Lancashire Automobile Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1986.
It's Ron Taylor's 1927 Lagonda 14/60 Tourer, and the programme of the event said this about it:
'98 1927 Lagonda 14/60 Tourer
Reg: TR 3270 4 cylinder 12.9 hp
1954cc
(Ron Taylor, Clifton, Preston)
Well-known and noteworthy Lagonda, successful in the early 1930s when owned by W H Graham Tom of Bodmin. In three years it won gold, silver and bronze medals in the Lands End Trial, a gold medal in the London to Edinburgh Trial and the premier award in the Lands End to John O'Groats Trial. Tom, in fact, owned the car until 1964 (it was even used as a tractor during the war!) and it underwent a total restoration between 1965 and 1975 finally being painted in Tom's original beige and brown livery. Last year it won the road event in its class on this run.'
There's a Lagonda Club for owners of, or people with an interest in, Lagonda cars.
On 2 August 2016 I showed photographs of several Lagonda cars, including a 14/60 model, that I'd taken at Oulton Park in July 2015.
