King EE V8

On 17 March 2016 I showed a photograph taken at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007 of a Stanley Steamer that had taken part in an Edwardian Run that had first been held two years earlier to mark the centenary of the first Grand Prix race at Dieppe in 1905. Here's another of the cars that took part in that run in 2007.

I tagged the car as a 1917 King EE V8, but I don't know where I got this information from as there's no details of the cars taking part in the programme of the SeeRed meeting. The only details I can find of the King Motor Car Company is that it was set up in 1911 and the V8 engine, created in 1914, had a capacity of 283 cu in, or 4.6 litres.

Mors Le Sanglier

This was one of the entrants in the Edwardian Race at the SeeRed meeting at Doningtom Park in June 2008.

It's William Way's Mors Le Sanglier, a 1907 French Mors chassis fitted with a 1915 8.2 litre V8 Curtiss aero engine.

Here's William Way during his race leading the 1913/18 Vauxhall Viper of Tony Lees.

By the following lap the Vauhall had passed the Mors.

Stanley Steamer

The SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007 featured a race for Edwardian Racing Cars, but the car shown in the photograph below didn't take part in that race.

It's a 1907 Stanley Steamer H5, chassis number 3708 which took part in an Edwardian run on the Saturday of the 2-day meeting. The programme of the event didn't list the cars taking part in the run, and just gave this information:

EDWARDIAN RUN

At 9.30am on Saturday up to 15 Edwardian Cars (1905-19) will leave the main paddock on the third 40-mile Grand Prix Run. The run, organised by Ron Birkett, was set up in 2005 to mark the centenary of the first GP at Dieppe.

Behind the Stanley Steamer is an Itala, but I don't have any other information about that car.

Napier 60hp

The Richard Seaman Trophy Vintage Car Races meeting at Oulton Park in August 1992 organised by the VSCC included a 4-lap Handicap Race for Edwardian Cars. Pictured below is one of the cars that took part in the race.

It's shown in the programme of the event as a 1908 Napier and I've seen this car described as a type 65R and as a T21. The programme said this about it:

'Trevor Tarring's 1908 60hp six-cylinder competition Napier has the largest engine in the race. With no less than 11.6 litres, Christopher Bird posted second fastest time at a Shelsley Walsh hillclimb with this car in 1911'

Edwardian Cars

Here are some photographs of an Edwardian racing car taken at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in July 1987.

It's a 1913 Theophile Schneider.

It took part in a 4 lap handicap race entered and driven by G. Little.

The programme of the event had this to say about the car after mentioning the oldest car at the meeting, a 1903 Mercedes:

'A 10 year jump from the 1903 Gordon Bennett race brings us to the 1913 French Grand Prix at Amiens, and a car of the type that ran there is due to be at Oulton Park today. It is G. Little's Theophile Schneider, with a long stroke 96 x 190mm, 5600cc engine.'

I can't find any website giving any information about this car but this site on Flickr shows a photograph of the car taken in 2009 and many photographs of other Edwardian cars.

Edwardian Cars

This is another Edwardian car from the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2006. It isn't listed in the programme of the meeting, but I've found that it's a 1913 Vauxhall fitted with an 11 litre 1918 Wolseley Viper engine and it's known as a Vauxhall Viper Special.

The Veteran Car Club of Great Britain and the Vintage Sports Car Club state that the dates for which cars are eligible to be defined as Veteran, Edwardian or Vintage are as follows:

Veteran are cars built up to and including December 1904

Edwardian are cars built from January 1905 to December 1918

Vintage are cars built from January 1919 to December 1930

VSCC race meetings frequently include races for Edwardian cars, usually of short duration in deference to the age of the cars competing. The photograph below is of one such car, a 1906 Renault AK GP car entered and driven by John Brydon at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2006.
