Itala

I photographed this car at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.

It's a 1908 Itala GP, but I don't have any more information about this particular car. I remember reading about Cecil Clutton taking part in VSCC events with one of these cars when I was a lot younger, but my motor racing visits at that time were restricted to Oulton Park and Aintree and I never saw the car at either of those circuits. The 1908 GP car apparently has a 12 litre 4 cylinder engine.

Itala

This car was displayed alongside the cars that took part in the VSCC Edwardian Race at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2006, but it isn't listed in the programme of the event and as far as I'm aware it didn't take part in the race.

It's obviously an Itala, and it's either the car that Prince Borghese drove to win the 1907 Peking to Paris race or a replica of that car. If it is that car it's a 7 litre Itala 35/45 hp that I understand is now kept at the Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile in Turin.

Stanley Steamer

The SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007 featured a race for Edwardian Racing Cars, but the car shown in the photograph below didn't take part in that race.

It's a 1907 Stanley Steamer H5, chassis number 3708 which took part in an Edwardian run on the Saturday of the 2-day meeting. The programme of the event didn't list the cars taking part in the run, and just gave this information:

EDWARDIAN RUN

At 9.30am on Saturday up to 15 Edwardian Cars (1905-19) will leave the main paddock on the third 40-mile Grand Prix Run. The run, organised by Ron Birkett, was set up in 2005 to mark the centenary of the first GP at Dieppe.

Behind the Stanley Steamer is an Itala, but I don't have any other information about that car.
