Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

This car was entered in the auction which accompanied the Northern Classic Car Show at the Belle Vue Exhibition Halls in Manchester in September 1986.
It's a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, but no other details were given about the car in the brochure of the event.

Lotus Eleven

I photographed this car at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in May 2001.
It's the 1956 Lotus Eleven driven in the 2¼ hour long Historic Motor Racing News Gentlemen Drivers GT & Sports Car Race by Robert Mills and Ian Montgomery. The Eleven is the only Lotus that has its marque number spelled out - earlier models were given Roman numerals (I to X), and later cars from the 12 onwards were just given simple numbers.

Allard Farrellac

This car competed in the HGPCA Race for Pre 1959 Drum Brake Sports Cars at the Silverstone Historic Tribute meeting in June 2004.
It's Tony Bianchi's 1958 Allard Farrellac, a car that was based on the ex-Peter Collins Allard J2, and you can read about it in this feature by the Allard Owners Club on Allard based Specials.

500cc Formula 3 cars

I've shown previously photographs of Formula 3 cars of the 1950s, and here are some more, this time cars that took part in the HSCC Summer Race Meeting at Oulton Park in July 1992.
This is the 1955 Cooper Mk9 of John Turner
Here's the 1951 JBS of Richard Utley. The JBS was developed by James Bottoms & Sons from the Cowlan Special of R L Coward and Geoff Lang
.The 1952 Kieft of Rod Delves
This car is described in the programme of the event as B R Banyard-Smith's 1955 Cooper MkIV, but the MkIV was a 1950 model, and this looks more like the MkIX of 1955.

The website of the 500 Owners Association gives lots of information about the cars that took part in Formula 3 racing in the 1950s. Just click on 'Marques' in the list on the left-hand side of the 'Home' page.

Billund Motor Museum (2)

On 18 May 2016 I showed some phototographs I had taken in 1992 of some of the exhibits at the Billund Motor Museum in Denmark. Here are a few more of the photographs I took that day.
1939 Hanomag Type 13

1935 De Soto Airflow

1938 Mercedes Benz 320 Cabriolet

1938 Mercedes Benz 540K

1939 DKW F8

1937 Horch 853A

In 1932 Auto Union AG was formed, being an amalgamation of four manufacturers, Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer, and though each of those four continued to produce cars under their own names they each bore a badge with the four interlocking rings of the Auto Union, which survives to this day on Audi cars. You will see that the 1939 DKW and the 1937 Horch have that badge on these photographs. The 1912 Wanderer that I showed on the last batch of photographs doesn't have that badge because it was produced before the Auto Union merger.

Austin Healey 100M

Here's a line of cars in the paddock at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.
It's the four Austin Healey 100Ms that took part in the Pre-1961 Sports & GT Cars Race. From the left are Mark Pangborn's 1955 model (WVS 238), James Wilmot-Smith's 1954 car (WSL 432), then two more 1955 models, those of Michael Thorne (228 UXN) and Robert Rawe (OSJ 919).

Friday's Ferrari

This car was part of the display at the Ferrari Owners Club area at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000.
It's a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione, serial number 2735GT, and is the Rob Walker entered car with which Stirling Moss won the 1961 Tourist Trophy race at Goodwood. The car was rebodied by Piero Drogo after competing in the 1962 Tourist Trophy race, but was restored in stages from the 1970s, the complete restoration being finished in 2009. I showed photographs on 2 May 2014 of the car that received the Drogo body from this car as a result of the restoration.

Relics N Rust

This is (for me) a bit of an out-of-the-way place on Commercial Brow in Hyde that I've passed by a couple of times recently and there's usually something interesting outside, but unfortunately I've not yet had the time to have a look inside.
This Volkswagen was there on 6th April

This Harley Davidson was there on 4th June.

They have a Facebook page and on it there's a note of an evening meet on 29 June. I must try to get along there that day.

McLaren Can-Am and Sports Cars

The HSCC Spring Historic Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 1987 included a race for The HSCC Atlantic Computers Historic GT Championship. Here are a few of the McLarens that were entered in this race.
John Foulston's 1970 McLaren M8D
This car isn't listed in the programme of the event, but it's a 1966 McLaren M1B
Chris Aylett's 1970 McLaren M8E
Martin Bolsover's 1968 McLaren M6B
Don Shead's 1970 McLaren M8C/D

ERA

Here's a photograph of a car being made ready to run in the Historic Seaman Race at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in June 2008.
It's Duncan Ricketts' 1938 ERA E-Type, GP1, and behind it is the ERA R3A that Mark Gillies drove in the same race. You can read about the ERA cars on the ERA Club website.

Penske

This car competed in the Silverstone International Trophy race for Pre-1978 Grand Prix Cars at the Silverstone Historic Festival meeting in August 2001.
It's not mentioned in the programme of the event - car number 94 is shown as Martin Birrane's black Lola-Chevrolet T330 Formula 5000 car - but this appears to be a Penske PC4, a car that competed in Grand Prix racing in 1976 and 1977.
Here's the car on its way out of the pit lane during a practice session.

Daimler CVG6

This was one of the entrants in the Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1996.
It's a 1956 Daimler CVG6 with Northern Counties H58C body. The programme of the event had this to say about the vehicle:

Daimler CVG6, Northern Counties H58C Body, 1956                                       VTU 76
S.H.M.D. 76
Entered by              D.A.Jones, Burnley, Lancs
Former Operator - S.H.M.D.  Last survivor of a batch of 6 unique centre entrance vehicles, withdrawn as S.E.L.N.E.C. 5676 in 1972. Now based at Keighley Bus Museum. S.H.M.D. (What do the letters stand for?)

Presumably whoever wrote these words knew what the letters stood for - it's the Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield Transport and Electricity Board. I don't know the date of the dark green livery - when I used the buses to travel from Denton to Manchester between 1960 and 1968 they were a much lighter shade of green.

Turner

The Jaguar Drivers' Club's 6th Cheshire Cats Trophy Meeting at Oulton Park in April 1987 included The Cheshire Cats Trophy Race, a 36 lap 100 mile race for production sports cars which included the car shown below.
It's a Turner Mk1, and the co-drivers are shown in the programme of the event as Tony Broom and Geoff Sizzey. Turners were produced in the 1950s and 60s both in kit form and as complete cars, and you can read about the Turner Company here.

Ferrari 312 T3

The SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2005 included 'A Demonstration of Italian Racing Cars' which consisted some laps of the track by a variety of Maseratis, Ferraris and a Lancia D50. This is one of the Ferraris that took part in the demonstration.
It's Nick Mason's 1978 Ferrari 312 T3, chassis number 034 and the car Gilles Villeneuve drove for most of the 1978 racing season.
Here's the car at McLean's Corner during the demonstration run.

OSCA

In 1955 a 2½ litre engine capacity limit was introduced for Formula One racing and 2 years later, in 1957 Formula Two with a 1½ litre limit officially started. In 1956, however, some races were run to this new Formula and because few single seat Formula Two cars had by then been produced sports cars of up to 1½ litres were also allowed to compete. One such race was a support event at the British Grand Prix meeting at Silverstone in July of 1956 and below are two cars that took part in that race - photographed by my brother as I didn't attend that meeting.

They're two OSCA MT4s, but other than that I've no information. My brother tells me neither car was listed in the programme and the first car here was in the blue and yellow colours of Sweden, the other Italian red.

AC Cobra

This car took part in the Inter-Marque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners' Club's Historic Car Races meeting at Oulton Park in September 1986.
It's John Atkins' 4.7 litre 1965 AC Cobra, shown in the programme of the event as being entered by ACOC Cobra Register. The chassis number is COB6058, the 'COB' apparently showing that it was made at Thames Ditton by AC Cars and intended for the home market - as opposed to the ones intended for export which were prefixed 'COX'. All the Thames Ditton cars then had a number beginning with '6', and a subsequent '0' showed that it had a leaf sprung chassis (like this car) or a '1' that showed it had coil springs.

BRM P180

The Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1999 included a tribute to BRM and below is a photograph of one of the cars forming part of a display in the paddock of BRM cars dating from 1950 to 1977.
It's the Donington Collection's 1972 BRM P180 and you can read the history of this car on this madasafish.com website.

Rising Moon Motorcycle Club

The Rising Moon Motorcycle Club of Hyde had a Bike Show at the Hyde United car park yesterday to raise money for Blood Bikes Manchester and unfortunately had to put up with some rather miserable weather. Nevertheless I managed to take some photographs and here are a few of them.

You can see all the photographs I took in this Flickr album.

Calcott

This car was in the Vintage car park area on the inside of Redgate corner at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007.
It's a 1926 Calcott 12/24. Calcott built around 2500 cars between 1913 and 1926, very few of which remain.

Lola T300

This car contested the HSCC Seldon Pre '71 Single Seater Championship race at the HSCC's Spring Historic Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 1986, which included classes for Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 5000 cars.
It's the Formula 5000 1971 Lola T300 entered by Seldon Airconditioning and Refrigeration and driven in the race by Alex Seldon. It's chassis number HU10 and the history of the car is detailed in this article by oldracingcars.com. Behind it is the Lotus 72 of Mary Foulston.
Here's Alex Seldon dropping down into Deer Leap after rounding Lodge Corner.

Friday's Ferrari

The Shell Ferrari Historical Challenge race was a race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998 that brought together a host of Ferraris ranging from the 1950s to the 1970s with a few Alfa Romeos (ex-Scuderia Ferrari cars) thrown in for good measure. This was one of the later model cars to take part.
It's Engelbert Stieger's 3 litre 1972 Ferrari 312P, often referred to as the 312PB to differentiate it from the earlier 1969 312P. The chassis number is 0888 and it was driven in the race by Christoph Stieger.

Cadillac Model A

I photographed this car just after it had left the start line at the Exchange Station car park in Manchester on the Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1986.
It's a 1904 Cadillac Model A, and the programme of the event had this note about the car:

5        1904 Cadillac Model A
          Reg: BJ 208  1-Cylinder  6.5 hp
          (A.W. Hutt, Lytham St. Annes)
One of only three Model A Cadillacs in the UK,
and affectionately dubbed 'Methusalah 11' by
Mr Hutt, this car was first owned by Mr Pratt of
Pratt's Petroleum, and then by Esso, being used
in the 1930s to extensively advertise Esso
products. It has competed in many VCC events
and this will be its sixth Manchester to
Blackpool. It completed well over 1000 miles
last year, and Mr Hutt maintains there is no
intention to relegate this car to a museum.

Gordini Type 16

This car took part in the VSCC Flockhart Trophy Race at SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2006.
It's Marc Valvekens' 2½ litre 1952 Gordini Type 16, and on 25 November 2013 I showed photographs of this car at a race meeting at Donington Park in 2004. You can read about the designer of the car, Amédée Gordini, here.

More Rileys at Oulton Park

I showed photographs on 17 January 2016 and 26 January 2016 of Rileys in the paddock at Oulton Park that competed in the VSCC's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies meeting in July 2015, and on 10 February 2016 and 25 February 2016 of Rileys on the track at that meeting. Here are photographs I took of Rileys in the spectators' parking areas on that day. Obviously they're all Rileys and I've provided such additional information as I am able to.
