Aston Martin DBR4/250

This car took part in the Flockhart Trophy Race for 1950s single-seat cars at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in June 2008.

It's Hubert Fabri's 1957 Aston Martin DBR4/250, but subsequently known just as a DBR4, a Grand Prix car built in 1957 although it didn't make its debut in Grand Prix racing until 1959. The programme of the event shows its engine capacity to be 2992cc, which suggests that it's from an Aston Martin DB3S.

Friday's Ferrari

This is one of the cars taking part in the AMOC Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

Fiat 500L

I usually manage to get a few photographs of interesting cars when we pay our regular visits to Guernsey, but on the latest trip I only managed one car.

It's a Fiat 500L, a car that was produced between 1968 and 1972 and the Guernsey registration number suggests that it's a 1969 model.

Renault Floride

This is a car on the stand of the Renault Owners Club at the Northern Classic Car Show at the G-Mex Centre, Manchester, in August 1993.

It's a 1962 Renault Floride, a car that was produced from 1958 to 1968, and until 1962 marketed in the USA and the United Kingdom as a Caravelle, There's no mention of it in the brochure of the show, but the Renault Owners Club is described as follows:

'The Renault Owners Club caters for people who own or have an interest in Renault cars, particularly from 1946 until the present day. We try to cater for the serious restoration persons to simply the family owners of a modern car. Models span the classic 4CV right through the thoroughbred rear engined models right up till the Clio and Safrane. Sporting Renault owners are also catered for with track days. A professional quarterly magazine is published, supplemented by a newsletter. Spares and technical advice are also provided. 1993 is the club's 41st year and currently has about 800 members.

Unlike many car makes, the club enjoys close links with the manufacturer. The display at Manchester tries to portray but a few milestones in the history of Renault in Great Britain.'

Maserati 250F

Eight Maserati 250Fs were entered in the 'Maserati UK Race for Pre 1961 Grand Prix Cars' at the Coys International Historic Festival at Silverstone in July 2000, and here are photographs of two of them.

This is the 1957 car of Peter Neumark and is chassis number 2527. A note in the programme of the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2005 says this about the car:

First of the Lightweight 'T2' 1957 factory team cars with smaller-gauge chassis tubing. Later sold to Australian motorcycle rider Ken Kavanagh. In 1964 the Hon Patrick Lindsay started racing it in UK. After huge accident at Thruxton chicane when throttle jammed open, the chassis was replaced. Now owned and raced by Peter Neumark.

This is one of Cameron Millar's recreations, owned by Peter Gooch, but I don't know its chassis number. It's being driven out of the pit lane here on a demonstration run by Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first woman to race in Formula 1. Sadly, Maria died in January this year at the age of 89.

Mercedes Benz W125

On 22 March 2015 I showed some photographs of the 1937 Mercedes Benz W125 that was sent from the Mercedes Benz museum to the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007 to give demonstration runs in the hands of Tony Dron. The W125 had taken part in a Grand Prix race at Donington Park in 1937. Here are some more photographs I took of the car at that SeeRed meeting.

There was no motor racing World Championship in 1937, but Rudolf Caracciola became European Champion by winning 3 of the 5 races in the series.

The 1937 race at Donington Park was a non-Championship race and was won by Berndt Rosemeyer in an Auto Union C type.

That 1937 race was known as the Donington Grand Prix as the RAC would not let the organisers call it the British Grand Prix.

Gurney Eagle FA74

This is a photograph taken at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2005. One of the races at this meeting was for the HSCC Derek Bell Trophy, and this is one of the Formula 5000 cars that took part in that race.

It's a 1974 Gurney Eagle FA74, and this is what the programme of the event said about the car:

'Californian Dan Gurney's legendary All-American Racers team was out of F1, concentrating on USAC champ cars and F5000 by the early 1970s. This striking Chevrolet-powered machine was raced by Elliott Forbes-Robinson, whose team mate was occasionally James Hunt. It is owned by former TGP race winner Ian Giles.'
