1954 Jaguar D-Type

The Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2003 included a round of the BRDC Historic Sports Cars Championship, and here is one of the cars that took part in that race.

It's the 1954 Jaguar D-Type chassis XKC402 which finished second that year in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race. It was driven in that race by Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton and at the end of the season the car was sold to Duncan Hamilton. I remember seeing Duncan Hamilton drive this car at the first motor race I ever attended, the 1955 British Empire Trophy Race at Oulton Park, where he finished in seventh place. At the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting in 2003 the car was driven by Peter Neumark.

Friday's Ferrari

This car competed in the Italian Historic Car Cup race at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.

It's the 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB of Peter Neumark and is chassis #1917GT. The car has the Gioacchino Columbo 2,953cc V12 engine with a single overhead camshaft per bank, and three twin choke Weber carburettors.

On 29 December 2017 I showed a photograph of this car in the pit lane at Donington Park in 2004.

Alfa Romeo 8C Monza

This was one of the competitors in the Maserati UK Race for Pre 1952 Grand Prix Cars at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000.

It's Peter Neumark's 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C Monza, originally built with a 2.3 litre supercharged straight-eight engine, but the programme of the event says that this car has the later 2.6 litre unit that was fitted to the cars from 1933. The car is painted in the French blue racing colours, but I don't know if it's the blue Alfa Romeo 8C driven by French driver Louis Chiron in the 1933 racing season. The car was given the 'Monza' name after its victory in the 10 hour long 1931 Italian Grand Prix at the Monza circuit co-driven by Giuseppe Campari and Tazio Nuvolari.

Maserati 250F

Eight Maserati 250Fs were entered in the 'Maserati UK Race for Pre 1961 Grand Prix Cars' at the Coys International Historic Festival at Silverstone in July 2000, and here are photographs of two of them.

This is the 1957 car of Peter Neumark and is chassis number 2527. A note in the programme of the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2005 says this about the car:

First of the Lightweight 'T2' 1957 factory team cars with smaller-gauge chassis tubing. Later sold to Australian motorcycle rider Ken Kavanagh. In 1964 the Hon Patrick Lindsay started racing it in UK. After huge accident at Thruxton chicane when throttle jammed open, the chassis was replaced. Now owned and raced by Peter Neumark.

This is one of Cameron Millar's recreations, owned by Peter Gooch, but I don't know its chassis number. It's being driven out of the pit lane here on a demonstration run by Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first woman to race in Formula 1. Sadly, Maria died in January this year at the age of 89.
