Friday's Ferrari

This car competed in the Italian Historic Car Cup race at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.

It's the 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB of Peter Neumark and is chassis #1917GT. The car has the Gioacchino Columbo 2,953cc V12 engine with a single overhead camshaft per bank, and three twin choke Weber carburettors.

On 29 December 2017 I showed a photograph of this car in the pit lane at Donington Park in 2004.

Friday's Ferrari

This is one of four examples of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB that took part in rounds of the Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge series at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.

It's Vincent Gaye's 1960 model, chassis #2069GT, powered by the Gioacchino Colombo designed 2,953cc V12 engine and seen here in the pit lane during a practice session. The Ferrari 250 GT SWB was a formidable GT racer, but was equally at home when used as a road car.

Friday's Ferrari

I took this photograph at McLean's Corner during a round of the Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge series at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.

Both cars are Ferrari 250GT SWB  models with the 2,953cc V12 engine which powered all the Ferrari 250 models. Number 616 is David Franklin in his 1960 car, chassis #1917GT, who is leading the 1962 model of Nicolas Zapata which is chassis #3327GT.

I've previously shown photographs taken at this meeting of both these cars, David Franklin's on 29 December 2017 and Nicolas Zapata's on 13 April 2018 - both of them in the pit lane during a practice session.

Friday's Ferrari

I took this photograph at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.

This car's a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB, chassis #2563GT, and was driven by Lukas Hüni and Gary Pearson in the RAC Tourist Trophy race at this meeting. The 250 GT SWB was introduced by Ferrari at the Paris Motor Show in 1959 and has the 2,953cc V12 engine that powers all the Ferrari 250 models.

On 23 May 2014 I showed a photograph of this car, together with another 250 GT SWB, at this meeting.

Friday's Ferrari

This was one of the competitors in the Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge race at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.

It's Nicolas Zapata's 1962 Ferrari 250GT SWB, chassis #3327GT, the SWB standing for 'short wheelbase', being 2,400mm as opposed to the 2,600mm of the longer wheelbase cars. It was powered by a 2,953cc V12 engine. The car is here leaving the pit lane during a practice session.

The Vintage Sports Car Club's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004 included a round of the Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge, and this is one of the cars that took part in that race.

It's David Franklin's 2,953cc V12 1960 Ferrari 250GT SWB and is chassis #1917GT. It is pictured here in the pit lane during a practice session.

This car was amongst the cars that Talacrest displayed at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995.

It's a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, and it seems to be chassis #2067GT.  The Classic and Sports Car site www.barchetta.cc shows this car to have been present at this meeting when in the ownership of Talacrest.

I took this photograph at McLean's Corner during a Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge race at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.

Leading is Peter Hardman in the 1966 Ferrari 412P of Harry Leventis (#0844), followed by the 1959 Maserati Tipo 61 of Carlo Vögele (#2454) and the 1960 Ferrari 250GT SWB of Vincent Gaye (#2069GT).

Friday's Ferrari

This car was entered in the Coys of Kensington GT Race at the Coys International Historic festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995.

It's a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB, serial number 2021GT, entered by Lindsay Owen-Jones but driven in the race by Stefano Violati. Stirling Moss won the RAC TT race at Goodwood in both 1960 and 1961 driving a Ferrari 250 GT SWB, and he described it as 'the best GT car in the world'.

Friday's Ferrari

This is a car which competed in the 90 minute long Historic Motor Racing News Gentlemen Drivers GT and Sports Endurance Race at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2005.

It's a 1960 Ferrari 250GT SWB, serial number 1993GT, owned by Belgian Marc Devis. I've featured this car twice before, on 27th February 2015 at a 2004 Donington Park race, and on 20th December 2013 at a 2010 Silverstone race, by which time it had been painted light blue. Because of the length of the race at Oulton Park two drivers shared the driving in each car, but the programme of the event doesn't show who was the co-driver with Marc Devis.

It's a 1960 Ferrari 250GT SWB, serial number 1993GT, and here it's just leaving the pits during a practice session.

I took this photograph at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in August 1996.

It's a Ferrari 250GT SWB, but I've not been able to identify the serial number of this car, which appears to have the registration number 250 SPG. There were three 250GTs entered in the 'Coys of Kensington GT Race', two of which were red according to the programme of the event, The records of www.barchetta.cc doesn't record this car as belonging to either Jose Albuquerque or Ian Donaldson who entered those two cars on that day. In fact I can't trace any 250GT that's ever had this registration number.

Friday's Ferrari

The VSCC Seaman Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003 included three races on both of the two days of the meeting for different categories of the Shell Historic Ferrari/Maserati Challenge. Here is a photograph taken in the pit lane during practice showing two of the cars which took part in these races.

Number 66 is the 1961 Ferrari 250GT SWB Berlinetta of Gregor Fisken, serial number 2443GT. Car number 90 behind it is the 1964 Ferrari 250LM which the programme of the event says was driven at this meeting by Andre Lara Resende. The car is serial number 5899 and www.barchetta.cc says that the car was at that time jointly owned by Andre Lara Resende and Frederico della Noce, but driven on that day by Frederico della Noce. In the distance you can see the nose of Carlo Vögele's 1963 Ferrari 330LM.

Two of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB models which took part in the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy race at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010. The car on the left is the 1962 model of Conrad Ulrich who shared the driving in the race with Tony Dron and is serial number 3107GT. The car on the right, a 1961 model, is serial number 2563GT and was driven in the race by Lukas Hüni and Gary Pearson.

Today's car, seen at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010, is a 1960 Ferrari 250GT SWB owned by the Belgian Marc Devis and driven by him and Jarrah Venables in the race for the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy for Historic Cars.

Today's car, seen at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1994, is a 1962 Ferrari 250GT SWB which was entered in the 'Coys of Kensington GT Race' by Lindsay Owen-Jones with the two listed drivers being Peter Hannen and 'To be nominated'. As far as I can ascertain it seems to be this car, although the list of events in which that car is shown to have competed doesn't include the 1994 Coys meeting.

Seen in the Ferrari Owners Club area at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995 is this Ferrari F40. The F40 was apparently the first road legal production car to break the 200mph barrier. The car behind it is a 250GT SWB.
