1953 Cooper Bristol Mk II

This is a photograph that I took at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000.

It's the 1953 Cooper Bristol of Gregor Fisken and was driven in the Pre 1961 Grand Prix Cars race by Peter Bradfield. It is powered by a 1,971cc straight-6 Bristol engine based on the one in the pre-war BMW 328. The original Cooper Bristol was designed as a Formula 2 car, but found itself involved in Grand Prix racing in 1952 and 1953 when the World Championship was run to Formula 2 regulations. Gregor Fisken's car appears to be the ex-Ecurie Ecosse Cooper Bristol MkII (later called the T23) but it should have an air scoop running up the bonnet of the car.

Friday's Ferrari

This car took part in two rounds of the Shell Ferrari Historical Challenge series of races at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997.

It's the 1962 Ferrari 268SP of Bernie Carl and was driven in the races by Gregor Fisken. The car is chassis #0798 and was built in February 1962 as a Ferrari 248SP but by April of that year the engine had been modified to 268SP specifications, which involved increasing the 2,459cc V8 engine to 2,645cc. It was driven in the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hour race by Giancarlo Baghetti and Ludovico Scarfiotti but retired with clutch problems after 18 hours.

The car is chassis #0798 and was built in February 1962 as a Ferrari 248SP but by April of that year the engine had been modified to 268SP specifications, which involved increasing the 2,459cc V8 engine to 2,645cc. It was driven in the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hour race by Giancarlo Baghetti and Ludovico Scarfiotti but retired with clutch problems after 18 hours. The number 21 car behind the 268SP is another car that competed in those races. The programme of the event shows it to be a 1954 Ferrari 750 Monza, entered by Paul Osborn and to be driven in the race by Tony Dron. It's got the entrant and driver correct, but it's actually a 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial, chassis number #0468MD. This car has the Aurelio Lampredi designed 4-cylinder inline 1,984cc engine.

Iso Grifo A3C

This was one of the cars entered in the Italy v Rest of the World 1960s World Endurance Cars race at the Silverstone Historic Festival meeting in August 2001.

It's the 1965 Iso Grifo A3C of Gregor Fisken, and has a 5,354cc V8 Chevrolet engine. The car was designed by Giotto Bizzarrini who later left Iso and continued producing the car as a Bizzarrini A3C. I showed a photograph of an Iso A3C on 30 November 2015, and on 23 October 2017 a photograph of its Bizzarrini equivalent.

Friday's Ferrari

This is a photograph taken inside one of the pit garages at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997.

The nearest car is a 3 litre V12 1967 Ferrari 312, chassis number 003 67, driven by Chris Amon that season. It's not listed in the programme of the event as having taken part in any of the races at this meeting. The other three cars here all competed in the Shell Ferrari Historical Challenge race. Car number 51 on the right of the 312 is Terry Jones' 2.4 litre V6 1959 Ferrari 246S, chassis 0778, number 21 is Paul Osborn's 2 litre 4 in-line 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial, chassis 0468MD, driven in the race by Tony Dron, and number 52 is Bernie Carl's 2.5 litre V8 1962 Ferrari 268SP, chassis 0798, driven by Gregor Fisken.

Lotus Eleven Le Mans

This car competed in the Ten Lap Invitation Scratch Race for 1950's Sports/Racing Cars at the VSCC's meeting at Oulton Park in August 1996.

The programme of the event simply says that it's Gregor Fisken's 1956 1,098cc Lotus, but it is in fact the Lotus Eleven Le Mans, chassis no. 211 that was driven by Cliff Allison and Keith Hall in the 1956 Le Mans 24 Hour race. The car retired from that race after 10 hours when Cliff Allison was driving down the Mulsanne Straight - the fastest part of the circuit - and hit a German Shepherd dog that ran onto the track. Three works Lotus Elevens were entered in that race, two with the 1,098cc engine and one of 1,459cc. As well as the Allison/Hall car, the 1,459cc car driven by Colin Chapman and Herbert MacKay-Fraser retired, but the other 1,098cc car driven by Reg Bicknell and Peter Jopp finished in 7th place overall, winning the 1.1 litre class. The Lotus Eleven Le Mans differed from the standard Lotus Eleven in that it had a wider chassis frame in order to provide Le Mans regulation-width seats, and cockpit and footwell minimum dimensions, but the overall width of the bodywork was no different to the standard car.

Porsche 904/6

This is a car which took part in the 2¼ hour long Gentleman Drivers GT and Sports Endurance Race at the Donington International Historic Grand Prix meeting in May 2004 at Donington Park.

It's a 1964 Porsche 904/6 owned by Burkhard von Schenk and carries his customary black and white chequered marking on the nose of the car. The original 904 used the 1996cc flat-four Porsche engine but a limited number of cars were produced using a variant of the 911's flat-six engine of the same capacity.

Burkhard von Schenk drove the car in the race at this meeting with Gregor Fisken as his co-driver.

Alfa Romeo

The third race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995 was the 'Coys of Kensington GT Race for the John Wolfe Trophy' and included several Alfa Romeos including the three pictured below.

Friday's Ferrari

It's a 1962 Ferrari 268SP, serial number 0798, which started off as a 248SP but was very quickly modified to 268SP specification. It was owned by Bernie Carl and driven at this meeting by Gregor Fisken.

Friday's Ferrari

The VSCC Seaman Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003 included three races on both of the two days of the meeting for different categories of the Shell Historic Ferrari/Maserati Challenge. Here is a photograph taken in the pit lane during practice showing two of the cars which took part in these races.

Number 66 is the 1961 Ferrari 250GT SWB Berlinetta of Gregor Fisken, serial number 2443GT. Car number 90 behind it is the 1964 Ferrari 250LM which the programme of the event says was driven at this meeting by Andre Lara Resende. The car is serial number 5899 and www.barchetta.cc says that the car was at that time jointly owned by Andre Lara Resende and Frederico della Noce, but driven on that day by Frederico della Noce. In the distance you can see the nose of Carlo Vögele's 1963 Ferrari 330LM.

A visitor to the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone on a couple of occasions, this  photograph was taken at the meeting in July 1997 when it was entered and driven by Gregor Fisken.

It's a Ferrari Dino 268 SP and this website tells you the history of this particular car, serial number 0798.
