1971 Tyrrell 003

The Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000 included a celebration of 50 years of the Formula One World Championship which included a display featuring several cars for each decade of that period. This is one of the cars representing the 1970s.

It's the 1971 Tyrrell 003 that was driven by Jackie Stewart in all but the first race in 1971 when he won his second World Championship, and in six races the following season when he was runner-up to Emerson Fittipaldi.

1936 Ford Pickup

This is a photograph that I took at the Footman James Classic Car Show Manchester at EventCity in September 2018.

It's a 1936 Ford Pickup and this is what the note in the windscreen said:

The Rainy City Cruisers are a group of motoring enthusiasts from Manchester whose name reflects the fact that many people think that it always rains in Manchester. The DVLA record says that the engine of this car has a capacity of 5,300cc.

1953 Connaught A-Type

This is a photograph that I took at Lodge Corner in the Cheshire Building Society Allcomers Race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in June 1981.

It's the 1953 Connaught A-Type of Alan Cottam, chassis AL10, which has a 4-cylinder inline engine based on the 1,767cc Lea Francis engine with the capacity increased to 1,960cc in line with the then current Formula 2 regulations.

Ferrari GTC4 Lusso

This is one of the photographs that I took at the Ferrari Racing Days meeting at Silverstone in September 2017.

It's either a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso or a GTC4 Lusso T which seem to be externally identical. The original GTC4 Lusso was introduced in 2016 with a 6,262cc V12 engine with 4-wheel drive and steering, while the GTC4 Lusso T introduced in 2017 had a 3,855cc V8 engine and only rear-wheel drive, though it retained the 4-wheel steering of the earlier model.

1937 Mercedes Benz W125

This is a photograph that I took at the Vintage Sports Car Club’s Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in June 1971.

I was walking through the muddy paddock when Colin Crabbe came past me in his 1937 Mercedes Benz W125 on his way to take part in a practice session. As a photograph it’s terrible, mostly blurred except for the driver and rear end of the car – but I like it.

Donington Park Museum

This is a photograph that I took at the Donington Park Museum in September 2014.

I don’t remember if there was an explanation for the ‘John Player Grand Prix’ sign but the British Grands Prix of 1972 to 1978 and 1981 to 1985 were sponsored by the John Player conglomerate, though most of the cars in this picture are from earlier or later years or not F1 cars. On the extreme left is the BRM P153 with which Pedro Rodriguez competed in the 1970 F1 season and next to that is a 1974 Trojan T101 Formula 5000 car. The car in the middle is a Stewart SF1 as driven by Rubens Barrichello and Jan Magnussen in the 1997 season and next to that is a 1993 Lola T330 Formula 5000 car. The car on the extreme right is a 1976 Hesketh 308D, mainly campaigned that season by Harald Ertl.

 

Motorcycles at Silverstone

There were no motorcycle races at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1994, but this is a photograph that I took in the paddock that day.

There doesn't appear to be anything in the programme of the event about these bikes, but the white number 11 on the blue background indicates that the AJS is a 350cc machine whilst the white number 9 on a green background tells you that the Royal Enfield has a 250cc engine. If it's still kept the same registration number 362 WNK belongs to a 1958 499cc BSA.
