1947 AEC Regent 3 RT

This is one of the vehicles that took part in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

The programme of the event had this note about it:

HLW 159 AEC REGENT 3 RT, PARK ROYAL. 1947. Entered by A.J. Roskoss, Huddersfield. New to London Transport as RT172 and retained by them until 1958 when it transferred to Bradford, being finally withdrawn in 1968. Major restoration began in 1982 and is continuing.

1953 Seddon Mk5

This is one of the vehicles that took part in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It's a 1953 Seddon Mk5 and the programme of the event said this about it:

 

EM 5505 Seddon Mk5/L platform. 1953. Entered by R. Sanders, Preston, Lancs. Rebuilt from scrap, this vehicle is displayed in the livery of its first owner, and can be seen at many rallies throughout the U.K.

1939 Bristol K5G

This was an entrant in the 'Double Deck Buses PSV pre 1950' class at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It's a 1939 Bristol K5G, provided new to the North Western Road Car Company Limited with fleet number 952 in May 1939, rebodied with a Willowbrook L27/26R body in November 1951 (and given the new fleet number 432), and taken out of service in July 1967. According to the DVLA it has a 7 litre diesel engine - presumably the Gardner 5-cylinder 5LW unit. The programme of the event said this:

AJA 152 Bristol K5G, Williowbrook 1939, Entered by J,Pollock, Marple, Cheshire. Following initial restoration some years ago, this vehicle is now undergoing a further period of renovation.

1949 AEC Regent III

This is a photograph that I took in Heaton Park, Manchester at the Greater Manchester Transport Society’s Trans Lancs Historic vehicle Rally in September 1988.

It’s not listed in the programme of the event, but it’s a former London Transport 1949 AEC Regent III, Fleet number RT1574.

1958 Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1

This is a photograph that I took in Heaton Park, Manchester at the Greater Manchester Transport Society’s Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in September 1988.

It’s not listed in the programme of the event,  but it’s a 1958 Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 provided new to Wallasey Corporation Transport in 1958 and has a Metropolitan Cammell H77F body.

1950 Crossley DD42/7

This is a photograph that I took in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988 at the Greater Manchester Transport Society’s Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally.

It’s a 1950 Crossley DD42 and the programme of the event had this note about it:

 

JOJ 489 Crossley DD42/7, Crossley H30/24R, 1950 Birmingham City Transport. Entered by D. Harvey, Halesowen, West Midlands. Rallied every year since 1969 and recently re-restored, this unique tin front Crossley is now the sole survivor of 270 Crossleys owned by Birmingham.

1966 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII

This was one of the participants in a Vintage and Historic Vehicle Display & Run organised by the Saddleworth Museum in June 1988.

It’s a 1966 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII which has a 6-cylinder inline 2,912cc engine. 17,712 of the MkIIIs were produced between 1964 and 1967. The DVLA say that the car is still taxed, but now shows the colour to be blue.

1946 Leyland Beaver

This is a photograph that I took at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It's a 1946 Leyland Beaver and the programme of the event had this note about it:

AHL 622 Leyland Beaver. 1946. Entered by D.Canavan, Littleborough.

Purchased new by Beverley Bros., Eagle Brewery, Wakefield, it was used with a draw bar trailer until 1967. After sale it remained out of use until 1983 when it was acquired by the present owner  for preservation.

1958 Leyland Titan PD2/40

This is a photograph that I took at the Greater Manchester Transport Society’s Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It’s not listed in the programme of the event but it’s a vehicle from their own Museum of Transport, a 1958 Leyland Titan PD2/40 with a Burlingham body, which entered service in 1958 and was withdrawn in 1975.

1947 Leyland Octopus

This was one of the vehicles entered in the Greater Manchester Transport Society’s Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park in September 1988.

It’s a 1947 Leyland Octopus, and the programme of the event had this note about it:

 

LTN 265 LEYLAND OCTOPUS FLAT. 1947. Entered by B. Brash, Stoke-on-Trent. New to C.W.S. Newcastle-upon-Tyne, passing to a showman and to scrap before restoration by the present owner.

1968 Leyland PD2/47

I took this photograph at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It's a 1968 Leyland PD2/47 and the programme of the event had this note about the Vehicle:

 

JTF 217F LEYLAND PD2/47, EAST LANCS. Entered by T. Sharples, Preston, Lancashire. Delivered to Darwen Corporation, No. 39 was intended for use as a one man operated vehicle but only ran as such with the top deck blocked off.

1949 Leyland Octopus

This is a photograph that I took at the Greater Manchester Transport Society’s Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally I Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It’s a 1949 Leyland Octopus, and the programme of the event had this note about it:

 

KYF 317 LEYLAND OCTOPUS. 1949. Entered by R.Nield, Manchester. A dropside lorry, it spent its life working in London and Sheffield for British Road Services before passing to a showman and ultimately preservation.

1967 AEC Regent 5

I took this photograph at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It’s a 1967 AEC Regent 5 and the programme of the event said this about it:

 

MDJ 918E AEC REGENT 5 M.C.W. 1967. Entered by D. Hillan,  St. Helens, Merseyside. New to St. Helens Corporation as No. 58, this bus also holds the distinction of being the last double decker supplied to this undertaking.

1951 AEC Regent III

This is a photograph that I took in September 1988 in Heaton Park, Manchester at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally.

It's a 1951 AEC Regent III and the programme of the event had this note about the vehicle:

KDT 393 A.E.C. Regent 3, ROE. 1951. Doncaster Corporation.

Entered by A. Peart, Doncaster, South Yorkshire. An experimental vehicle built for Doncaster Corporation, passing to Blue Ensign in 1955, to driver training in 1967 and for preservation in 1971.

1951 Bedford SB

This is a photograph that I took at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It's a 1951 Bedford SB and the programme of the event had this note about it:

MPW 455 Bedford SPG, Duple Vega, 1951

Entered by Moseley PSV Preservation Group, Loughborough, Leics. New to Stainsby of Kings Lynn, passing to Birds of Hunstanton on acquisition of the company in the mid 1960s, being operated until 1977. Since passing to the group the vehicle has been extensively refurbished.

1951 AEC Mammoth Major

This is a photograph that I took in Heaton Park, Manchester at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic vehicle Rally in September 1988.

It's a 1951 AEC Mammoth Major and this is what the programme of the event said about it:

SL 9724 AEC MAMMOTH MAJOR MK3. 1951. Entered by R.C.Cresswell, Hilderstone, Staffordshire. Initially owned by the Air Ministry, this vehicle later passed to a contractor from whom the present owner bought it in 1976. During the following three years it was restored to the condition seen today.

1964 Daimler CVG6

This is a photograph that I took in Heaton Park at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in September 1988.

It's not listed in the programme of the event, but it's a 1964 Daimler CVG6 with Roe bodywork, new to Derby Corporation Transport in 1964 and withdrawn in 1978.

1932 Leyland Cub

I took this photograph at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

It's a 1932 Leyland Cub and has a 6-cylinder 4,086cc petrol engine. A note in the programme of the event reads as follows:

 

'BV 1673 Leyland Cub, 1932. Entered by H. Booth, Barnsley, S. Yorks. Originally new to Blackburn Corporation Transport Department, this vehicle was scrapped in 1962 and then preserved in 1965. Following three years rallying the vehicle went into store to emerge in 1987.'

 

I believe that this vehicle is now at the Beamish Museum.

1953 Foden FG6/12

This was one of the vehicles that took part in the Greater Manchester Transport Society’s Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

As is often the case it's not listed in the programme of the event, but it's a 1953 Foden FG6/12 and the DVLA record says currently has a SORN.

1936 Albion K127 Dropside Lorry

This was one of the vehicles that took part in the Greater Manchester Transport Society’s Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1988.

A note in the programme of the event reads as follows:

 

BTB 429 Albion K127 Dropside Lorry. 1936. Entered by D. Huffer, Manchester.

Originally supplied to special specifications to Messrs. Pincroft – Dyers & Finishers of Adlington, Lancs.
