BRM P30

This was one of the display cars at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000 when the theme was 50 years of Formula 1 racing.

It's Nick Mason's 1954 BRM P30 V16/04, now owned by Bernie Ecclestone, and seen here leaving the pit lane on a demonstration run driven by Ray Boulter. He appears to be wearing Nick Mason's helmet.

Cobo Bay, Guernsey

When I was a youngster one of the popular songs was 'Galway Bay' by Bing Crosby, which included the line 'And see the sun go down on Galway Bay'. In my early 20's I went with a couple of friends to Ireland where we hired a car and drove from Dublin over to the west coast visiting various places including Galway Bay, but I don't remember actually seeing the sun go down there. I have, however, seen the sun go down on Cobo Bay in Guernsey, and on our recent visit we drove down to Cobo three days running to see the sunset. Here are three photographs taken on those days.

Lagondas at Oulton Park

I took several photographs of Lagondas at the VSCC's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015, in the paddock, on the track and in the spectator car parks, and here they are below.

Brooke ERA

This car was entered in the Historic Seaman & Flockhart Trophies Race for Pre-1961 Front-Engined Racing Cars at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies race meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.

It's Tim Metcalfe's 1936 Brooke ERA, which is basically a Riley Imp with a 1½ litre supercharged ERA engine, and you can read the history of this car here.

Crossley RFC Staff Car

This car took part in the Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run, starting from the Exchange Station car park in Manchester, in June 1990.

It's obviously a Crossley, but the programme of the event shows car number 19 as a 1912 Michigan Tourer entered by C R Unsworth of Ashton-in-Makerfield. This was either a misprint, or Mr Unsworth owned more than one eligible car as the programme for the 1987 event has this entry for car number 26:

         Reg: AE 28,  4 cylinder 20/25 hp
         (C R Unsworth, Ashton in Makerfield)
Only two of these unusual Crossleys are known
to be in existence - each is fitted with double
back wheels, and both are on this Run for the
first time.

Willment BRM

Here's a car that competed in the Coys of Kensington 80th Anniversary Trophy Race for Pre-1972 Le Mans Cars at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1999.

It's Anthony Taylor's 1965 Willment-BRM, about which I've been able to find little information except that it's powered by a 2 litre BRM engine.

Friday's Ferrari

Here's one of the Ferraris spotted in St Peter Port during the Guernsey Motor Festival weekend last week.

It's a Ferrari 458 Italia, and because the Guernsey registration system consists of  up to five digits and no letters, it's got an appropriate number plate.
