Austin Healey 100/4

This car competed in the AMOC '50s Sports Cars race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.

It's Martyn Corfield's 1954 Austin Healey 100/4 with a 2,660cc inline 4 cylinder engine, a replica of the car that Donald Healey took to the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1954 and with a team of drivers including Carroll Shelby set 83 National and International speed records. The effects of the Bonneville salt on the original car led to it being scrapped in 1957, and the creation of this replica started in 2007 using many of the modifications fitted to the Bonneville record car. Those 1954 record breaking efforts also led to the production of the racing version of the 100/4, the Austin Healey 100S which incorporated many of those modifications.

This photograph and the one below were taken at Britten's chicane during the race. Here Martyn Corfield leads the 1952 Jaguar XK120 of Andrew Wenman, the 1959 Jaguar XK150 of Andrew Moore and the 1955 Jaguar XK140 of Alexis de Beaumont.

Later in the race Martyn Corfield leads the 1951 Jaguar XK120 of Chris Keith-Lucas and the 1959 Jaguar XK150 of Andrew Moore.

Cameron Millar Maserati 250F

This car competed in the VSCC Flockhart Trophy Race at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2006.

It's indistinguishable from a 1950s Maserati 250F, but it's one of 12 replicas built by Cameron Millar and this one has the chassis number CM7. Cameron Millar acquired a genuine Maserati 250F in 1964 (originally 2501, later renumbered 2523) which he kept and raced for 8 years. In this time he purchased all the remaining cars and spare parts belonging to the Scuderia Centro Sud who had competed with the 250F in the 1950s, and also the chassis jigs from the Maserati factory. He then set about creating this series of replicas, using as far as possible genuine period parts, which are so well crafted that the FIA has allowed them to race alongside the genuine Maserati 250F and its contemporaries in competitive historic racing events. At the time of this Donington Park event CM7 was owned by Gerry Hann and was driven in the Flockhart Trophy race by Allan Miles.

Overland Model 83

This car is pictured in the Village Hotel, Cheadle, Stockport at the start of the Lancashire Automobile Car Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1993.

The only information about it in the programme of the event is that it is a 1916 Overland Model 83 Tourer and it was entered by David Rigby of Hindley, Wigan. The Model 83 has an inline 4-cylinder side valve engine and was produced in Toledo, Ohio, by Willys-Overland Motors.

Salmson Gran Sport

This car was in the paddock at the Silverstone Historic Tribute meeting in June 2004.

It's a 1928 Salmson Gran Sport with a 4-cylinder inline 1,100cc engine. The Gran Sport was produced at Salmson's Billancourt factory from 1924 to 1930.

Lamborghini Urraco

I photographed this car at the VSCC's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2008.

It's a 1974 Lamborghini Urraco, chassis number 15858 and engine serial number 5858. The Urraco was produced from 1973 to 1979 with a choice of three different sized V8 engines - the 2 litre P200, 2½ litre P250 and 3 litre P300. This car is the 2½ litre model.

Friday's Ferrari

This car took part in the Shell Historic Ferrari Maserati Challenge race at the VSCC's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003.

Officially designated by Ferrari as a 1971 Ferrari 312 P, it has a 2,991cc flat-12 engine and is generally known as a 312 PB (for 'boxer') to differentiate it from the earlier 1969 312 P that had a 3 litre V12 engine. Like the earlier 312 P the 312 PB was a Group 6 Prototype Sports Car, but was re-designated as a Group 5 Sports Car for the 1972 season. The car is chassis #0880 and at the time of this Donington Park meeting it was owned by the American William Binnie, who appears to be driving the car in this photograph taken in the pit lane during a practice session, although the programme of the event shows the driver as Ray Bellm.

Frazer Nash Le Mans Coupe

It's always interesting walking round the various car club displays at historic race meetings, and here's a photograph I took at the Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in August 2001.

The Frazer Nash Car Club displayed various vehicles, including this 1954 Frazer Nash Le Mans Coupe. Its chassis number is 421/200/197 and it was delivered to its first owner, Anthony Twentyman, in August 1954. It was Frazer Nash's 1954 Earls Court Motor Show car and has the BMW derived Bristol 2 litre engine, serial number 100A/319. There a potted history and several photographs of the car in this portfolio by Pendine Historic Cars Limited when they offered the car for sale a few years back.
