The first stage of the Manchester Metrolink system opened in 1992, a street level tramway being built in the city centre to join the the existing railway lines from Manchester Victoria to Bury and from Manchester Piccadilly to Altrincham to allow the trams to run from Bury to Altrincham. I took this photograph 2 years later, in August 1994 when I went to the Northern Classic Car Show at the G-Mex Centre - in the background here.
