De Tomaso Longchamp

On 8 April 2015 I showed a photograph of a De Tomaso Pantera that I had taken at the Northern Classic Car Show at the G-Mex Exhibition Centre in Manchester in August 1991. Here's a photograph of the other car that was on the De Tomaso Drivers Club stand that day.

It's a De Tomaso Longchamp, and the brochure of the show said this about the cars:

'The Pantera is the most well known and has been in production 20 years. It's a mid engined 330-450 bhp Supercar. The Longchamp is a front engined 2 door, 4 seater and with the same engine will cruise at 150 mph. The Pantera will do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, standing ¼ in 13 secs.'

Italian Formula Junior Cars

I showed some photographs on 31 October 2015 of several British Formula Junior cars at an HSCC meeting at Oulton Park in 1986. Here are a couple of photographs of Italian Formula Junior cars at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007.

The red car is Tony Pickering's 1959 OSCA FJ and the blue car is Antony Childe-Freeman's 1959 Volpini FJ.

This is Gordon Wright's 1958 Stanguellini FJ.

Lola T70

This car took part in the HSCC Atlantic Computers Historic GT Championship race at the HSCC's Spring Historic Race Meeting at Oulton Park in May 1987.

It's Stuart Graham's 1968 Lola T70 GT, and you can read about the T70 here.

On looking for information about this car I discovered from a short pen-picture of Stuart Graham that he was born the day after I was born. If you read this, Happy Birthday for this Saturday Graham!

Lotus 24

Here are a couple of photographs I took during practice for the British Grand Prix at Aintree in July 1962.

This is Masten Gregory's Lotus 24 Climax, entered by the UDT Laystall Racing Team. He qualified in fourteenth place on the grid and ended the race in seventh position, one lap behind the winner.

Bugattis

Here are three Bugattis I photographed at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997.

I can't be sure I've identified these correctly as I can't find the original notes I had written and you can't see any race numbers on the cars, but I think the nearest car is Ivan Dutton's 1928 Type 35C, the next car is Alf Smith's 1925 Type 35T and the third car is John Howell's 1930 Type 45. This article gives information about the Type 35 cars and this one about the Type 45.

Birthday Card

This is a card I bought for my brother's recent birthday:

When I picked it up I expected that there would be something on the back of the card saying what race was being depicted and giving some information about the cars and drivers shown, but instead.....

.....all that it says is 'Flags 1936'. The cars shown are obviously an Alfa Romeo 8C 35 or 12C 36 leading a Mercedes-Benz W125 - the Alfa could have been in a race during 1935, 1936 or 1937, but the W125 was only raced in 1937 so the date of 1936 is incorrect. Trawling through the major races of 1937 the only race this could possibly be is the 1937 Italian Grand Prix at Livorno, where the number 22 Alfa Romeo 12C 36 was driven by Tazio Nuvolari, who handed the car over later in the race to Guiseppe Farina, and the number 6 Mercedes-Benz W125 was driven by Herrman Lang. I've come across a photograph of the 1937 Italian Grand Prix of two of the Mercedes-Benz W125s about to round a corner where there's a fence exactly like the one in this painting, which seems to confirm that it is Livorno.

Friday's Ferrari

Here's a car that I photographed in the pit garage at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003.

It's not shown in the programme of the event, but it's a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta TdF and appears to be the one owned at that time by Carlo Vögele, serial number 0909GT. The history of that car doesn't show it as having taken part in this meeting, but Carlo Vögele drove his Maserati A6GCS in the Shell Historic Ferrari Maserati Challenge race at this meeting, so it was possibly driven here by Thomas Studer who drove the car in a meeting at Donington Park later that year. I showed a photograph of this car on 25 May 2012 competing in the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in 1999.
