1954 MG TF

This car was on the stand of the MG Owners Club at the Northern Classic Car Show at Belle Vue, Manchester in September 1983.

It's a 1954 MG TF, a car that was produced from 1953 to 1955 replacing the MG TD and in turn being succeeded by the MGA. This car, like all the early MG TFs has the 4-cylinder 1,250cc XPAG engine, and from later in 1954 the 1,466cc XPEG engine was used - those cars being designated MG TF1500s.

MG 'Old Number One'

This car was one of the vehicles on display at the Heritage Motor Centre's Roadshow at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995.

Known as 'Old Number One', it's not the first MG to be built, but apparently it's the first one to be built with the purpose of competing in motor sports events. The Morris Cowley bullnose origin of the car is evident and you can read here the MG Owners' Club story of the car.

When the British Leyland Motor Corporation was set up in 1968 it was decided to find out how many old vehicles were held by the various companies which were part of the new Corporation. Nearly 100 were found and in 1975 Leyland Historic Vehicles was formed to maintain this fleet of vehicles. The British Motor Heritage Trust was formed in 1983 which then led to the Heritage Motor Centre museum at Gaydon being opened in 1993. In 2000 the trust expanded to include the whole of the British motor industry and the museum now has a collection of nearly 300 vehicles, and after a major refurbishment in 2015/16 it reopened as the British Motor Museum.

MG C-type Montlhery

This car took part in two races, including the 2 hour long VSCC Team Relay Race for Pre-war Sports Cars, at the VSCC's SeeRed and Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies race meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.

It's Oliver Richardson's 1931 MG C-type Montlhery, with a 4 cylinder in-line 746cc supercharged engine. The MG Owners' Club's model guide gives this information about the car.

MG Q Type

I took this photograph at the Northern Classic Car Show at the Belle Vue Exhibition Centre, Manchester in September 1983.

It was on the stand of the MG Owners' Club and it's a 1934 MG Q Type, only 8 of which were built.

MGA Twin Cam

There were three stands for MG enthusiasts at the Northern Classic Car Show at Belle Vue, Manchester in September 1986, the MG Car Club Ltd, the MG Owners' Club and the MG Octagon Car Club. It seems from the insignia on the umbrella behind the car that this photograph was taken at the MG Car Club stand.

The MG Car Club was founded in 1930 at the factory in Abingdon, it catered for the enthusiasts at the time who raced their cars. Today of course it caters for everyone who likes MG's. The magazine 'Safely Fast' began then as well, and is now still the club's magazine. The club spans 56 years of MG's from the very early Midgets to the saloon Metro, Maestro and Montego's of today, on our stand we hope to reflect this age. There will be a supercharged 'Y' type to look at and a ZB Magnette. More modern machines like the Metro Turbo and 6R4 rally car will be on display. There will also be a jubilee edition Midget, the only one ever built. To get back to the racing scene there will be a race prepared MGA.
