Formula Ford Racing

 

This is a photograph that I took at the Knickerbrook chicane during the HSCC Historic Formula Ford race at the Historic Sports Car Club's Summer Race Meeting at Oulton Park in July 1992.

Leading is Gary Pearson in his 1971 Merlyn Mk20 followed by the 1971 Crossle 20F of Mike Whatley and the 1969 Lotus 61 of Simon Hadfield.

Formula Ford racing at Oulton Park

I took this photograph at Britten’s chicane during the Historic Formula Ford race at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2017.

Alex Meek is leading in his 1971 Merlyn Mk29A followed by the 1970 Titan Mk6 of Andrew Wiggins. The next car is the 1967 Lotus 51B of Cliff Gray with Matt Dunne bringing up the rear in his 1971 Elden Mk10.

1970 Cooper Chinook

This car competed in the Historic Formula Ford race at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2017.

It's the 1,590cc 1970 Cooper Chinook of Stuart Dix, built by the Canadian Fejer Racing Cars company of Toronto after George and Rudy Fejer had bought all Cooper Racing Cars' stock of cars and parts, including moulds and jigs, when Cooper stopped racing car production in 1969.

1970 Macon MR8

I photographed this car at Lodge Corner during the HSCC Historic Formula Ford Championship Race at the Historic Sports Car Club's meeting at Oulton Park in June 2001.

It's the 1600cc 1970 Macon MR8 of Paul Sleeman, who had won the HSCC Formula Ford Championship with this car in the years 1999 and 2000. Macon Race Cars was started in the early 1960s by Tony Houghton and Angus McPhail and mainly built cars for Formula Ford, but also some for Formula 2, Formula B, Formula Pacific and Formula Junior.

Lotus 51B

This was one of the entrants in the HSCC Historic Formula Ford race at the Historic Sports Car Club's Summer Race Meeting at Oulton Park in July 1992.

It's Paul Stringer's 1968 Lotus 51B designed to run in the Formula Ford class of racing. Formula Ford was a first step onto the motor racing ladder, using a mildly tuned 1600cc Ford Cortina GT engine and ordinary road tyres that would prove less expensive than the existing Formula Junior and Formula 3 classes. About 218 of the cars were produced and this one is chassis #51B/FF/139.
