1971 Foden S39

I took this photograph at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1996.

It's a 1971 Foden S39 - there's no mention of it in the programme of the event but it also took part in the event in 1998 when the following note was in the programme:

Originally operated by Maxwell Hart of Glasgow as a low loader carrying plant equipment.

It was then used with a conventional flat bed trailer by Preistner of Warrington on general 

haulage duties.

It was later kept at the Bury Transport Museum, but I've been unable to ascertain if it's still there.

1973 Atkinson Borderer

I took this photograph at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1993.

It's a 1973 Atkinson Borderer in the livery of Fred Smith & Sons of Bury, but it isn't listed in the programme of the event. It's currently in the Bury Transport Museum on the site of the East Lancashire Railway.

Greater Manchester Transport Museum

I took this photograph at the Greater Manchester Transport Museum in June 1983.

On the left is the former Rawtenstall Corporation 1950 Leyland Tiger PS2/1 with East Lancs B35R body, which I understand is now in the Bury Transport Museum. On the right is the 1947 Bedford OB that was originally operated by Warburton Brothers (Bury), and is still in the Greater Manchester Transport Museum.

Foden S39

This is a photograph taken in September 1995 as the vehicles entered the display area in Heaton Park, Manchester, at the Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally organised by the Greater Manchester Transport Society.

It's a 1971 Foden S39 - there's no mention of it in the programme of the event but I understand that it is kept at Bury Transport Museum.

Marshall Traction Engine

For many years the Greater Manchester Transport Society has organised the Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally, usually on the first Sunday in September. At first the rally crossed the Pennines between Lancashire and Yorkshire, but now the run is a short one starting at the Museum in Cheetham Hill and ending at Heaton Park in Prestwich. Here are a couple of photographs of the 1906 Marshall Traction engine belonging to the Bury Transport Museum taken at the 1998 event.
