1992 McLaren MP4-7A

This is one of a large number of McLaren F1 cars that were exhibited at the Donington Park Museum before is closed in 2018, and I took this photograph on my last visit there in September 2014.

It's the 1992 McLaren MP4-7A that the McLaren team used in all but the first two races of the season, and was powered by the 3,493cc V12 Honda RA122E/B engine. It was driven by Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger, Senna winning three races, in Monaco, Hungary and Italy, and Berger two races, in Canada and Australia, Senna finishing in fourth place in the World Drivers' Championship with Berger in fifth place. Nigel Mansell won the World Drivers' Championship that year in his Williams FW14B and Williams won the World Constructors' Championship ahead of McLaren in second place.

Friday's Ferrari

This is one of the F1 Ferraris that was part of the Corse Clienti demonstration at the Ferrari Racing Days event at Silverstone in September 2017, and photographed at Club Corner from the F1 International paddock.

It's a Ferrari 150° Italia as raced by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in the 2011 season and is powered by the Ferrari 056 2,398cc V8 engine. The car only managed to finish in first place on one occasion, Alonso winning the British Grand Prix. He finished in fourth place in the Drivers' Championship and Massa sixth with the Championship being won by Sebastian Vettel in his Red Bull RB7. Ferrari took third place in the Constructors' Championship behind Red Bull and McLaren.

Drag Racing 1965

In 1964 and 1965 the US National Hot Rod Association in conjunction with the British Drag Racing Association organised an exhibition tour of Britain which in 1965 included a drag race meeting on the runway of RAF Woodvale near Southport. This is a photograph of one of the American dragsters that took part.

'Moonshot' is a car created by Dean Moon and had a 392 cu in (6.4 litre) V8 Chrysler engine. The car was due to be driven by Merek Chertkow who had driven the car in the first of the two scheduled meetings at Blackbushe airfield which was largely disrupted by continuous rain. After the Blackbushe meeting, however, Merek Chertkow was involved in a road traffic accident in which he fractured two vertebrae, and arrangements were made for another member of the American team, Ben Griffin, to drive Moonshot at Woodvale. Ben Griffin made the first run but Merek Chertkow decided he wanted to try the next run himself, but despite clocking a 9.80 and 174mph he lost out.

VSCC Racing

Race number 2 at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Hawthorn Memorial Trophies race meeting at Oulton Park in July 2015 had the grand title of 'Premier Cru Racing for Pre-1941 Standard and Modified Racing Cars - 20 Mins. Incorporating the Bruce Spollon Memorial, Ten Tenths Vintage Restorations Pre-War Continental Trophies'. Only six cars competed in that race, and I photographed each of them during the race at Druids Corner.

1983 Porsche 956

This was one of the cars displayed by the Porsche Club Great Britain at the Silverstone Historic Festival meeting in August 2001.

It's a 1983 Porsche 956, and appears to be one of the cars entered by the Rothmans Porsche Team in the 1983 Le Mans 24 Hour race. The three cars entered by the team had the flat 6-cylinder 2,649cc Turbocharged 935 engine, and were numbered 1,2 and 3 in the race. Car number 2 driven by Jochen Mass and Stefan Bellof retired after 21 hour of the race, Vern Schuppan, Hurley Haywood and Al Holbert in car number 3 won the race, and car number 1 driven by Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell finished in second place.

1956 CooperT39 Bobtail

I took this photograph in the paddock at the Vintage Sports Car Club's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007.

It's the 1956 Cooper T39 Bobtail of Scotty Taylor with a 4-cylinder 1,475cc Coventry Climax FWB engine, and it competed in the 1950s Sports Car Race. Next to it is the 1953 Cooper Bristol of David White.
