Guernsey, December 2015

Another short visit to Guernsey last week for our grandson Edward's third birthday. Both he and granddaughter Eliza were their usual selves.....
.....Edward here showing grandma how loud he could shout.....
.....and Eliza happy and smiling most of the time.

On the Thursday we had Edward for a large part of the day.....
.....we went for a walk in Saumarez Park in the afternoon.....
.....where someone was feeding the ducks.....
.....so Edward had to give them the remains of his lunch.

On the Saturday Edward had his birthday party and his mummy had made him a lovely Thomas the Tank Engine cake.
Very clever of mummy, but Eliza seemed to be wondering what clever mummy was doing wearing a donkey on her head.....

The party was rounded off with a game of 'Pass the Parcel'.

The next day after lunch at Crabby Jack's at Vazon we managed to have a walk on the beach for the only time during our stay there, although it was cold and dull. That didn't seem to bother Edward and Eliza though.....

.....they both seemed to enjoy running around in their wellies.

Guernsey and Grandson Edward

We were over in Guernsey last week for the Thanksgiving Service for our grandson Edward last Sunday. As well as all the local relatives and friends other friends of Paul and Anna had travelled over from the mainland with their children and on the Saturday we all went for a walk along Vazon beach. As you can see the weather was still cold enough to ensure we were well wrapped up.
On the Sunday Anna's Uncle Nick, who's a Bishop in Argentina and was over here for a few days, conducted the Thanksgiving part of the service. In the photo below it looks as if Edward's thinking: "What's he mean, 'Talk to the Hand'?"
After the service it was all back to Anna's parents' house where the adults relaxed inside the house, whilst the children found things to do in the garden, here with the help of Edward's other grandad.
We didn't return home till Thursday, so saw quite a bit of Edward over the next few days.
Wrapped up well against the cold for a trip out
"Look, I can wiggle my finger!"
With Mummy and what looks like the start of the croupy cough
With Daddy and wearing his favourite shoes

Sand Racing - Guernsey 23 June 2012

On our holiday in Guernsey in June this year we went to Vazon Beach to watch some motor cycle sand racing. I've not seen this before, but it's similar to speedway racing in that the races are four laps of an oval track about 400 yards round. The racing had already started when we got there and I didn't see any programmes for sale, so I don't know the names of the riders who appear in my photographs. The meeting was apparently organised by the Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club.

As in speedway, the sidecar races were run in a clockwise direction as the sidecars are on the left-hand side of the motorbike.

I love the opposite-lock cornering of the sidecar outfits
