1963 Aston Martin DP214

This is a photograph that I took at Luffield corner during the Coys of Kensington GT Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998.
It's Simon Draper's 1963 Aston Martin DP214 in which he shared the driving in the race with David Clark. This was one of two Project 214 cars built (the other being completely destroyed in an accident at the Nürburgring in 1964) and was based on DB4GT chassis 0194/R with the 3,670cc straight-6 engine bored out to 3,750cc.The car ran in the Le Mans 24 Hour race twice, retiring after 11 hours with a broken piston when in third place in 1963 driven by Bill Kimberley and Jo Schlesser, and in 1964 it was driven by Mike Salmon and Peter Sutcliffe but was disqualified after 18 hours for topping up with oil before the permitted time. It was in eleventh place at the time. Behind the Aston are the 1965 MGB of David Heynes/Mike Wilds and the 1960 Austin Healey 3000 of Ted and Mark Williams.

Triumph TR4 and TR4A

I took the photographs of these two cars at the Aston Martin Owners Club meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015 where they both took part in the Equipe GTS race.
This is the 1962 Triumph TR4 of Nick Mountford
This is the 1967 Triumph TR4A of Richard McKoen

The Triumph TR4 was introduced in 1961 as a replacement for the Triumph TR3 with a body designed by Giovanni Michelotti that was the first major body change for Triumph since the TR2 was introduced in 1953, although the TR4's chassis was based on that of the earlier TR cars. The TR4 was replaced by the TR4A in 1965 and that car continued in production until 1967. Outwardly almost identical, the major difference in the two cars was the TR4A's independent rear suspension. Both cars had the 4-cylinder inline Standard Vanguard engine that had been fitted to the TR2 and TR3, with the capacity increased from 1,991cc to 2,138cc.

This is Nick Mountford in the TR4 at Old Hall Corner during the morning qualifying session for the race.....
.....and here is Richard McKoen during the same qualifying session, followed by the 1963 MGB of Graham Bates and the 1964 MGB of Harvey Stanley.

1963 MGB

I took this photograph at McLeans Corner during the Equipe GTS Series race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.

The white car is the 1963 MGB of Derek Beresford and the red car is the 1963 MG of Simon Ashworth. The number 2 car leading the MGB's is the 1963 TVR Grantura of Rod Begbie, while the red car you can see behind David Beresford's car seems to be the MGB of Simon Wood and is also a 1963 car.

Coppice Corner, Donington Park

I took this photograph from McLean's Corner looking toward Coppice Corner during an 'Equipe' GTS Series race at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.

Just about to round Coppice Corner is the 1964 MGB of Peter Bolderson and the red car at the bottom of the rise is the 1965 TVR 1800S of Mark Ashworth. The number 33 car is the 1961 Sunbeam Alpine of Keith Hampson with the 1954 Austin Healey 100M of James Wilmot-Smith slightly behind and to his right. Bringing up the rear is the 1965 MGB of Graeme Forrester.

Equipe GTS

This photograph was taken at McLean's Corner during the Equipe GTS race at the VSCC's meeting at Donington Park in June 2008.
Leading is the 1964 MGB of Colin Pearcy which has a 4-cylinder inline 1,840cc engine, and trying to get through on the inside is Neil Howe in his 1961 Triumph TR4 with a 4-cylinder inline 2,138cc engine. Following closely behind is the 1963 TVR Grantura Series III of Rob Begbie, and this car has a 4-cylinder inline 1,798cc engine.

Aston Martin DB3S

Here's a scene in the pit lane during practice for the 2¼ hour long Gentleman Drivers GT and Sports Endurance Race at the HGPCA's Donington International Historic Grand Prix meeting at Donington Park in May 2004.
It's the 1956 Aston Martin DB3S shared in the race by David Bennett & Ted Rollason, and behind it are the 1964 MGB of Brian & Mark Lambert and the 1958 Elva MK IV of Simon Peach & Shaun Bromley. The DB3S is chassis DB3S/10 and I showed a photograph of it on 19 December 2012 at a race in 1993 at Oulton Park, when it was owned by Tony Smith, and on 21 January 2015 I showed a photograph of the Elva at this meeting. DB3S/10 wasn't one of the Aston Martin team which I pictured on 9 February 2015 at the Daily Herald International Trophy meeting at Oulton Park in 1956.
