1951 Guy Arab III

This was one of the entrants in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1993.

It's a 1951 Guy Arab III with a Roe C35F body, and was part of the Lancashire United Transport fleet from new until it was withdrawn from service in 1965. It's not listed in the programme of the event, but was at the 1996 Rally when a note in the programme read as follows:

Former Operator - L.U.T.  Ex. Lancashire United 440, this vehicle was repainted over the winter and appeared at The Museum of Transport's L.U.T. weekend in May this year.

1971 AEC Swift & 1966 Leyland Leopard

These were two of the participants in the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1995.

On the left is a former St Helens Corporation 1971 AEC Swift and to the right is a former Lancashire United Transport Leyland Leopard. The programme of the event has the following notes about the two vehicles:

One of seventy two similar vehicles which worked for St Helens Corporation, this vehicle saw use as a terminal transfer vehicle at Liverpool Airport.

Purchased from an angling club in Atherton in 1991, this vehicle has been re-engined and re-seated.

1944 AEC Matador

This is one of the participants in the Emergency & Specialised Vehicles class at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally in Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1995.

It's the 1944 AEC Matador from the Society's own Museum of Transport in Manchester and is a former military vehicle that was converted to a recovery vehicle for Lancashire United which was based in Atherton and was swallowed up by the Greater Manchester Transport Executive in 1976. A note in the programme of the event says this:

Used for many years by Lancashire United Transport as their recovery vehicle at Atherton garage, it

was presented  to the  Museum of Transport in 1985 and has  given excellent service  in the recovery

of exhibits for the collection since that date.

Strangely, though the programme says it's a 1945 vehicle the Museum's own website says that it dates from 1943, and the DVLA record shows the year of manufacture as 1944.
