March 761

This photograph was taken at Luffield Corner during the Grand Prix Masters race at the Silverstone Historic Tribute meeting in June 2004.

Peter Williams in the blue and yellow 1976 March 761 is leading the 1976 Penske PC3 of Frank Sytner with, in the background, Lorina McLoughlin in a 1974 McLaren M23. All three cars are powered by the 2,993cc V8 Cosworth DFV engine. According to the programme of the event the March is chassis #761/5 which didn't actually take part in any races until the 1977 season. The Penske is chassis #PC3/02, driven in period by several drivers including John Watson and Derek Bell, and the McLaren is chassis #M23/6, which competed in the 1974, 1975 and 1976 seasons, being driven by Denny Hulme, Jochen Mass and James Hunt, amongst others.

Lotus 72

This car was present in the paddock at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1993, although there was no race at the meeting for which it was eligible.

It's a Lotus 72 in the Gold Leaf Team Lotus colours that were worn when the car made its debut at the Spanish Grand Prix in 1970. It was powered by the 2,993cc V8 Cosworth DFV engine that won 12 out of 15 World Drivers' Championships between 1968 and 1982. Lotus relied on the 72 from 1970 till 1975 and it's probably more familiar in the black John Player livery that it wore from 1972 onwards.

Tyrrell 011

This was one of the cars competing in the Grand Prix Masters F1 Cars 1966-1985 race at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.

It's John Wilson's 1982 3-litre V8 Ford Cosworth DFV engined Tyrrell 011. The Tyrrell 011 was campaigned from the latter part of the 1981 season, throughout the whole 1982 season, and for two thirds of the 1983 season. Michele Alboreto won the last race of the 1982 season that took place on a track in the parking lot at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and he also won the Detroit Grand Prix in 1983. That win was the 155th and last for the Cosworth DFV engine.
