Lotus 99T

This was one of the cars on display at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in August 1996.

It's a 1987 Lotus 99T, the car with which Ayrton Senna finished third in the World Drivers Championship. Renault had provided engines for Lotus since 1983, but after they pulled out of F1 at the end of the 1986 season the Lotus 99T was powered by a turbocharged 1,494cc V6 Honda engine. Ayrton Senna won three of the races that season, with four second and two third places. Senna's win in the Detroit Grand Prix was the last for the Lotus team, ending a run of victories that was started by Stirling Moss winning the 1960 Monaco Grand Prix in Rob Walker's Lotus 18.

The following season Ayrton Senna moved to the McLaren team, winning the World Championship in 1988, 1990 and 1991, and finishing in second place in 1989.

Murray Walker

The VSCC's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003 featured a tribute to the late Ayrton Senna, and also a visit from the veteran Motorsport commentator Murray Walker who spent some time in the Paddock Suite during the meeting signing autographs.

Behind Murray Walker you can see the 1993 McLaren MP4/8, the 1987 Camel Lotus 99T, the 1985 JPS Lotus 97T and the 1983 Williams FW08C that were part of the 'Tribute to Ayrton Senna' display. The McLaren was the car that Ayrton Senna drove in spectacular fashion to win the rain-sodden European Grand Prix at Donington Park in 1993.

Williams FW08C

The VSCC's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003 featured a tribute to Ayrton Senna which included a static display of some of the cars he had driven in his career and a track demonstration.

The 1983 Williams FW08C was the first F1 car that Ayrton Senna drove, in a test at Donington Park in July 1983. The car was driven in the 1983 World Championship season by Keke Rosberg and Jacques Laffite.

Lotus 97T & 98T

As part of the Donington Park 'Tribute to Ayrton Senna' at the VSCC's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting in June 2003 there was a demonstration run by some of the F1 cars Ayrton Senna drove in his career, including the two pictured below.

This is the Lotus 97T driven by Ayrton Senna in the 1985 season, winning two of the races whilst his team-mate Elio de Angelis won one.

Here's the 97T passing the pits during a morning warm-up session.

This is the Lotus 98T, a development of the 97T, which the team ran in the 1986 season. Senna again took two victories with this car whilst his team-mate Johnny Dumfries didn't manage to finish above fifth place in any race.

Ayrton Senna

This is the front cover of the programme for the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in June 2003 which included a tribute to the late Ayrton Senna, and in particular commemorating his win in the European Grand Prix at Donington Park ten years earlier in 1993.

There was a display of some of the cars which he drove including the ones pictured below.
