This is a photograph that I took in September
1988 in Heaton Park, Manchester at the Greater Manchester Transport Society's
Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally.
It's a 1950 Daimler CVG6 and the programme of
the event had this note about the vehicle:
'JND 728 Daimler CVG6, METRO CAMMELL. 1950
Entered by D.Potts, Denton. Manchester. Subject of dry clutch experiments,
Manchester Corporation 4127 now has a standard fluid flywheel and pre-selector
transmission.'
The 53 bus route in Manchester was (and still
is) an orbital route round the south of Manchester starting at Cheetham Hill
then going via Harpurhey, Gorton, Longsight, Rusholme and Old Trafford to Salford
Shopping Centre. The ‘X’ and ‘Old Trafford’ indicate that this would have been a
‘Football Special’ to the Manchester United ground. Six pence in those days (2½p in decimal currency).
