Lister Knobbly

I photographed this car in the pit lane at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in June 2008.
It's Barry Wood's 1959 3.8 litre Jaguar-engined Lister Knobbly, so-called because of the contrast between the bulbous body compared with the smooth body of its successor, the Lister Chevrolet Costin bodied car. Barry Wood's car is chassis BHL 117 and I've featured it a couple of times before, on 30 July 2015 and 13 June 2017.

Ford Cortina & Ford Anglia

These two cars competed in the HSCC/HRSR "ByBox" Historic Saloon Car Championship race at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2008.
On the left is the 1964 1,498cc 4-cylinder in-line Ford Cortina GT of Joe Allenby-Byrne. The race was scheduled to last for 40 minutes and entrants had the option of nominating two drivers, but this car appears to have had only the single driver. The car on the right is the 1958 Ford Anglia 100E driven by Ed and Chris Glaister, but the programme of the event shows it to have a 1,100cc engine instead of the 1,172cc 4-cylinder in-line 100E engine usually fitted to these cars.

Another BAT Car

Yesterday I showed photographs of the three 1950s Alfa Romeo BAT cars styled by Franco Scaglione, then of Bertone. Here's a different kind of BAT car:
It's a replica of the Batmobile from the 1960 Batman television series and the 1966 Batman movie. Official Batmobile replicas are available from several sources. I photographed this car at the Footman James Classic Car Show Manchester at EventCity in September 2017.

Alfa Romeo BAT cars

On 18 February 2013 I showed photographs of the three Alfa Romeo BAT cars taken at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1994 when they were they were part of an auction held by Coys on the Saturday evening of the two day meeting. here are a couple more photographs I took of the cars that day.
This is the 1954 BAT 7 car being wheeled out for the display. This article by coachbuild.com describes the three Bertone-bodied vehicles.
1953 BAT 5, 1955 BAT 9 and 1954 BAT 7. All three cars were built on the Alfa Romeo 1900 SS chassis and, as Dan Eastwood pointed out on my previous post, they were all the brainchild of Franco Scaglione. (Should that be 'brainchildren'?)

Friday's Ferrari

I photographed this car at the Footman James Classic Car Show at EventCity, Manchester in September 2017.
Apart from the wheels it looks like a 3-litre 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB, but a DVLA registration check shows it to have a 2,979cc BMW engine. It's a replica of the Ferrari - and a very good one - by Grassbank Conversions of Manchester and it's one of a pair they are building. Have a look at their website which tells you all about the car and invites offers for it. If I had a spare £60,000 I'd make a bid for this.

Morris Minor

This car took part in the Lancashire Automobile Club's annual Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1986, and is pictured here on the Exchange Station car park in Manchester before the start of the Run.
It's a 1929 Morris Minor with a 4-cylinder 847cc side-valve engine designed by Wolseley, at that time also owned by William Morris. The programme of the event only had the following information about the car:

1929 Morris Minor,
Reg: WD 1430  4 cylinder  8 hp
(Colin Entwistle, Chorley)

Kieft CK51 F3

I took these two photographs at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2007.
It's a 1951 Kieft CK51 500cc Formula 3 car, and although there was a Formula Junior/Formula 3 race at the meeting this car isn't listed in the programme of the event, and I don't recall it taking part in the race.
This is the car that Stirling Moss drove in the 1951 and early part of the 1952 season, later changing to a Cooper Mk VI. It was a time when many Grand Prix drivers would compete in the support races at Grand Prix meetings, with several taking part in the 500cc races.

Tuesday 24 October 2017

Steyr Puch 500

I photographed this car at the VSCC's Boulogne and Hawthorn Trophies Race Meeting at Oulton Park in June 2006.
It's a Steyr Puch 500, and the 'M' on the number plate suggests that it was first registered between 1 August 1973 and 31 July 1974. The MoT record says that it was registered in May 1974, but that the date of manufacture was 1972. The Steyr Puch 500 was introduced in 1957 and used the Fiat 500 body with Steyr Puch's own two-cylinder flat 500cc engine. Production of the 500 continued until 1975.

Bizzarrini

This was one of the cars taking part in the Coys of Kensington GT Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1993.
Shown in the programme of the event as a 5.7 litre 1963 Bizzarrini Le Mans, it was driven in the race by Brian Classic. Giotto Bizzarrini, who had previously worked with Alfa Romeo and Ferrari joined forces with Renzo Rivolta to develop the Iso Rivolta GT, the Iso Grifo, and the Iso Grifo A3L and A3C. Following a disagreement with Renzo Rivolta in 1964 Giotti Bizzarrini split with Iso forming his own company and continued producing the Iso Grifo A3C which was renamed the Bizzarrini 5300 GT.

On 30 November 2015 I showed a photograph of an Iso Grifo A3C at Silverstone in July 2000.

Sunday 22 October 2017

Hummer

I took this photograph in a street Hyde in August this year.
It's a 2006 Hummer H2 stretch limousine, being used as a wedding car for the party of people on the pavement on the left. The Hummer is a civilian version of the military Humvee and was built by General Motors, this one having a 6 litre V8 engine.

Saturday 21 October 2017

BRM P30

This car was on display in the paddock at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2006.
It's the Donington Museum's 1954 BRM P30, V16 Mk2 No2, alternatively known as V16/05. After the demise of the 4½ litre/1½ litre supercharged Formula One at the end of the 1951 season the Mk1 and Mk2 BRM's were raced in Formula Libre events until 1955, after which the BRM team concentrated on the new Formula One 2½ litre BRM P25.

Friday's Ferrari

Here are a couple of  photographs of Tim Mogridge's 1996 Ferrari F355 Challenge that competed in the Intermarque Championship race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.
The Ferrari F355 Challenge has a 3½ litre V8 engine and is here seen at Druids Corner during a morning practice session.
Here's Tim Mogridge during the race at the Knickerbrook chicane.

I previously showed photographs of this car on 19 June 2015.

Thursday 19 October 2017

Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B

This car was in the paddock at Silverstone at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting in July 1992.
It's a 1937 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B with a supercharged 8 cylinder inline 2.9 litre engine, and on 26 December 2015 I showed a photograph of a competition version of this car at Oulton Park in 1992.

Wednesday 18 October 2017

Manx Norton

One of the motorcycles that took part in the Lansdowne Classic Series race at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.
It's the 1958 500cc Manx Norton of David Beckett being prepared in the paddock before the race.

Tuesday 17 October 2017

Ford GT40

This car took part in the Historic Motor Racing News Gentlemen Drivers Sports Racing Challenge Race at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2005.
It's Shaun Lynn's 1965 4.7 litre Ford GT40, chassis number GT40 P/1025, and driving was shared in this 60 minute race by Shaun Lynn and Kevin Kivlochan. The car was originally delivered to Shelby American, but problems with paperwork meant that it was returned to the the factory where it was converted to road specifications. Later it passed through various hands in the UK before being returned to the USA for a complete restoration in the 1990s. It then returned to the UK and was eventually bought by Shaun Lynn.

Boeing 777

I took these photographs at 11.22am on 6 October 2017 of Qatar Airways Cargo Flight QR8190 passing over Hyde just 3 minutes before landing at Manchester Airport.
It's a Boeing 777-FDZ arriving from Dublin
The aircraft registration number is A7-BJF
Taken from my back garden, and aircraft frequently lower their landing gear at around this point.

Sunday 15 October 2017

Tyrrell 011

This was one of the cars competing in the Grand Prix Masters F1 Cars 1966-1985 race at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.
It's John Wilson's 1982 3-litre V8 Ford Cosworth DFV engined Tyrrell 011. The Tyrrell 011 was campaigned from the latter part of the 1981 season, throughout the whole 1982 season, and for two thirds of the 1983 season. Michele Alboreto won the last race of the 1982 season that took place on a track in the parking lot at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and he also won the Detroit Grand Prix in 1983. That win was the 155th and last for the Cosworth DFV engine.

Saturday 14 October 2017

Albion Valiant

This is one of the vehicles participating in the Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally at Heaton Park, Manchester in September 1995.
It's a 1948 Albion Valiant, and the programme of the event says this about it:

Albion Valiant CX39N, Assoc. Coachbuilders C33F, 1948                         HUP236
Economic, Whitburn No 7
Entered by          Mr Purvis, Seaburn, Sunderland
Used on coach work and service duplication until 1963 and now restored to original livery.

Economic Bus Service was a partnership between two former Northern General employees, G.R.Anderson and E.W. Wilson, based in Whitburn, Co, Durham. HUP 236 was one of three Albion Valiant coaches that were purchased between 1948 and 1950, and it was withdrawn from service in 1963. After 10 years in storage it was purchased by A.L.Purvis in 1973 and restored by Purvis Bros. between 1975 and 1979.

Friday 13 October 2017

Friday's Ferrari

This is one of the cars that took part in the 'Demonstration of Italian Racing Cars' at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2005.
It's the 1978 3-litre Flat-12 Ferrari 312T3 of Nick Mason, chassis 034 that was driven by Gilles Villeneuve during the 1978 season. On 17 June 2016 I showed two more photographs of the car at this meeting, and on 6 February 2015 I showed photographs of the car at Silverstone in 1992.

Thursday 12 October 2017

Cooper Monaco

This car competed in the BRDC Historic Sportscar Championship race at the HGPCA's Donington International Historic Grand Prix meeting at Donington Park in May 2004.
It's the 1959 Cooper Monaco T49 of Ted Williams, powered by a 2-litre Coventry Climax engine. The car was offered for auction in September 2013 by Bonhams, who provided this history of the car, chassis number 002.
The car is pictured here at McLeans Corner during the race behind the Cooper Monaco of John Harper, accompanied by the Lister Corvette of Julian Bronson and the Lotus 15 of Philip Walker. On 30 November 2016 I showed a photograph of Anthony Ditheridge's Cooper Monaco in the paddock at this event.

Wednesday 11 October 2017

Bugatti Type 57

This was one of the cars entered in the Cheshire Life's Concours d'Elegance at the VSCC's race meeting at Oulton Park in May 2005.
According to the programme of the event it's Roland Duce's 1938 Bugatti Type 57C with an 8 cylinder 3,300cc engine.
It's apparently, though, a reconstruction of a Bugatti Type 57 Gangloff Coupé, based on a Bugatti Type 101 chassis with the engine from a Bugatti Type 57 Atalante.
An Old Classic Car forum dated February 2014 says this about Roland Duce's car:
"Roland's 'type 57' exotic bodywork was designed by Gangloff in the early 1930's; however nobody was brave or rich enough to place an order. More recently the owner of a type 57 chassis took the plunge and got one built. Believe it or not the original designer now in his 90's came over to England to supervise the build."
As usual with the VSCC's Concours d'Elegance competitions the cars paraded round the circuit during the meeting's lunch break.

Tuesday 10 October 2017

BRM P126

This car competed in the Grand Prix Masters race at the Silverstone Historic Tribute meeting in June 2004.
It's David Brown's 1968 BRM P126, and is chassis P126/01. The car was designed by Len Terry, who had previously designed cars for Lotus and Eagle, and was built by Len Terry and Frank Nichols at their Transatlantic Automotive Consultants premises using the new BRM V12 3-litre engine - the first V12 engine produced by BRM. The car raced throughout the 1968 season alongside the P133, which was BRM's own version of the car using the V12 engine, but neither were particularly successful.

Monday 9 October 2017

Ford Consul

This photograph was taken at the Northern Classic Car Show at G-Mex, Manchester in August 1991.
It's a 1961 Ford Consul 375 De Luxe, and has the same straight-4 engine as the Mark I, but with the capacity increased from 1,508cc to 1,703cc. The Ford Consul Mark I was produced from 1951 to 1956 and the Mark II from 1956 to 1962. The De Luxe model with higher equipment specification and a contrasting roof colour was included in the range from 1957, and the Mark II became the 375 in 1961.

Sunday 8 October 2017

Connaught B type

This is one of the entrants in the VSCC Ron Flockhart Trophy race at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophy meeting at Donington Park in June 2003.
This is the 1955 Connaught B Type of J W Morley, driven in the race by Simon Diffey, and has a 2,470cc Alta engine. The B Type has been known as the Connaught Syracuse since Tony Brooks' victory in the Syracuse Grand Prix in 1955. Behind it is another Connaught, the 1956/57 car of Michael Steele shown in the programme of the event as a C Type. Only one C Type was made, the last car produced by Connaught, and it was sold to Bob Said in the USA. He entered it for the 1962 Indianapolis 500 race, but Jack Fairman failed to qualify the car for the race. The car is shown here with a copy of the 'toothpaste tube' body worn by B Type chassis B3 in the 1957 and 1958 seasons, but the C Type never had that body in period.

On 9 March 2015 I showed a photograph of B Type chassis B3 with the 'toothpaste tube' body at Aintree in 1958, when it was owned by Bernie Ecclestone.

Saturday 7 October 2017

Elva Mk1B

This car competed in the HGPCA Race for pre 1959 Drum Brake Sports Cars at the HSCC's Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2004.
It's a 1955 Elva Mk1B with an 1100cc Coventry Climax engine replacing the original Ford 1172cc unit. According to the programme of the event the entrant/driver was Tiny Bailey, but I think that should have read Tony Bailey.

Friday 6 October 2017

Friday's Ferrari

I went to Silverstone on 24 September 2017, the first time for 7 years, for the Ferrari Racing Days meeting celebrating Ferrari's 70th anniversary. There was a very large number of Ferraris there, with Corse Clienti Challenge races, Ferrari F1 demonstration runs, and displays in the paddock. Here are five of the current range of cars that were in a Passione Ferrari display.
This is the Ferrari 488 Spider, with a 3.9 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 670 CV
The Ferrari 488 GTB, and this Berlinetta has the same engine as the Spider
This is the hybrid LaFerrari Aperta, with a 6.3 litre V12 engine giving 800 CV with the electric motor producing a further 163 CV
This is the Ferrari 812 Superfast, with a 6.5 litre V12 engine producing 800 CV
This car is the Ferrari GTC4Lusso, and the 6.3 litre V12 engine produces 690 CV

Thursday 5 October 2017

Audi Quattro

Here's another two of the cars that Audi took along to the VSCC's Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Donington Park in May 2001, together with the Auto Union C-Type and D-Type pre-war Grand Prix cars.
This is the 1989 Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO that took part in the North American IMSA GTO Championship in that year and was driven by Hurley Haywood, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Scott Goodyear and Walter Röhrl.
Here at Coppice Corner is the Audi A4 Quattro SuperTourer driven by Frank Biela in British Touring Car Championship races in 1996.

Wednesday 4 October 2017

Lotus Mk III

This car didn't take part in the racing, but was present at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2003 which celebrated the 50th anniversary of racing at the circuit.
It's the original 1951 Lotus Mk III, a car built by Colin Chapman based on an Austin 7 to compete in 750 Formula races. It proved so successful that there was a demand for copies, although only one was built, for Adam Currie, but it led to the formation of the Lotus Engineering Company.

Tuesday 3 October 2017

Maserati 4CS

I took this photograph  in the paddock at Silverstone at the Historic Festival meeting in August 2001.
It's a 1932 Maserati 4CS 1100, chassis #1114. Originally built as a sports car with a supercharged dual overhead camshaft four-cylinder inline 1,088cc engine it was converted to a monoposto by Count Castelbarco and the engine replaced with the 1,498cc engine from a Maserati 4CS 1500. During a restoration in the 1990s it was given a replica of its original two-seat body, but it apparently still has the 1½ litre engine.

Monday 2 October 2017

Kellison J-4

This car competed in the 1950s Sports Racing Cars race at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.
It's Albert Otten's 1958 Kellison J-4 with what the programme of the event says is a 5,555cc engine, though it doesn't give any more information. It's recorded elsewhere as having a 4.6 litre Chevrolet engine in 2016.

Sunday 1 October 2017

Singer 9 Sports Saloon

This car took part in the Lancashire Automobile Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1993.
I didn't manage to get a programme at that year's event so don't have any details of the owner of the car, but it's a 1934 Singer Nine Sports Saloon. This model was produced from 1932 to 1937 and has a 972cc OHC four-cylinder inline engine. It's pictured before the start of the run at the Village Hotel, Cheadle, Stockport.
