Marshall Traction Engine

For many years the Greater Manchester Transport Society has organised the Trans Lancs Historic Vehicle Rally, usually on the first Sunday in September. At first the rally crossed the Pennines between Lancashire and Yorkshire, but now the run is a short one starting at the Museum in Cheetham Hill and ending at Heaton Park in Prestwich. Here are a couple of photographs of the 1906 Marshall Traction engine belonging to the Bury Transport Museum taken at the 1998 event.

Friday's Ferrari

The Ferrari & Maserati Festival of Racing at Donington Park in May 2003 featured a race titled 'Ferrari Formula Classic' which included, amongst other cars, several examples of the Ferrari 308 and 328 models. Here are photographs of four of the cars which I took on that day.
This appears to be a 328 GTS and has no race number, but should be the 1988 model of Peter Everingham which is the only 328 GTS shown in the programme of the event.
This is the 1987 328 GTB of Mike Furness
This 328 GTB doesn't seem to have been taking part in the racing and behind it is the Ferrari 360 of Mark Cale
This is the 1983 308 GTBi QV of Odhran McConnell

Chevrolet

On 11th Sept 2013 I showed some photographs of a 1958 Chevrolet Corvette at the HSCC Summer Race meeting at Oulton Park on 4th July 1992. Here are photographs of three other Chevrolets at that meeting, two of which (at least) took part in the HSCC Independance Day race.
This is the 1969 Stingray of Hal Danby and is the car which is shown in the background, apparently abandoned at the trackside, in one of the photographs on the earlier post.
This is a 1964 Chevrolet Malibu entered by Norman Abbott Racing and driven in the race by John Young
A 1963 Corvette Stingray (number 39) is shown in the programme of the event entered by Hal Danby and driven in the race by Tim Wright and this may be that car before the race number was applied.

There were some early Christmas presents to be opened on Friday.......

......before lunch in the Cobo Tea Room with Grandpa Martyn.

Saturday afternoon there was a birthday party at Grandpa Martyn's house for Edward and his cousin Clara who's just a few days younger.

Anna with Edward and Clara

Grandpa Martyn's present to Edward was this trike and when it had eventually been assembled Edward was able to have his first ride.

Edward Bear later that evening......

......and later still with Mummy and Daddy.

Waiting to set out the next day with his Gruffalo hat on.

'Gumdrop'

When our children were little I remember a series of children's books by Val Biro about a 'magic' 1926 Austin Heavy 12/4 Clifton Tourer which went by the name of 'Gumdrop'. Here is a photograph of a 1925 Austin Heavy 12/4 Clifton Tourer which I took at the start of the Lancashire Automobile Club's Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in May 1987.
The programme of the event says this about the car:

81         1925 Austin Clifton Tourer'
             Reg: KM 630 4 cylinder 12hp
             (Driver: P.M. Greenwood, Manchester)
This car is owned by Lockwood and Greenwood Ltd., of Audenshaw, Manchester. It had one owner from new until 1968, and since then has undergone comprehensive restoration by the present owners.

Lockwood and Greenwood Ltd is a firm of car dealers who used to specialise in British Leyland (later Rover Group) models, which included Austin.

Another car in the Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship race at the SeeRed meeting at Doningon Park in September 2006 was this 1981 McLaren MP4/1.
It was driven in the race by Dean Lanzante and he's seen here returning to the pits after a practice run
The car is here seen at Redgate corner during the practice session followed by the 1978 Tyrrell 008 of Andrea Bahlsen

Aston Martin DB3

The featured marque at the 1995 Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995 was Aston Martin, with the Aston Martin Owners' Club celebrating its Diamond Jubilee in that year. Amongst the many Aston Martins at the meeting was this 1952 DB3.

It's chassis number is DB3/4 and it was a works car in 1952/53 after which it was road-equipped and registered as 151 BMH.

Friday's Ferrari

Amongst the cars that Talacrest displayed at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting in July 1995 at Silverstone was this 1955 Ferrari 750S Monza. Behind it you can see one of the 1975 Ferrari 312T F1 cars. The 750S was very close to the fence you can see in front of it, so I had to use a wide-angle lens on the camera.
This car is serial number 0520M and you can see its history here.

Edwardian Cars

Here are some photographs of an Edwardian racing car taken at the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies meeting at Oulton Park in July 1987.
It's a 1913 Theophile Schneider.
It took part in a 4 lap handicap race entered and driven by G. Little.
The programme of the event had this to say about the car after mentioning the oldest car at the meeting, a 1903 Mercedes:
'A 10 year jump from the 1903 Gordon Bennett race brings us to the 1913 French Grand Prix at Amiens, and a car of the type that ran there is due to be at Oulton Park today. It is G. Little's Theophile Schneider, with a long stroke 96 x 190mm, 5600cc engine.'

I can't find any website giving any information about this car but this site on Flickr shows a photograph of the car taken in 2009 and many photographs of other Edwardian cars.
