1956 Aston Martin DB3S

I took this photograph at Luffield corner during the 1950s Sports Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1998.

Leading is the 1956 Aston Martin DB3S of Tony Smith followed by Adrian Hall's 1955 Lotus Mk X. The car on the right looks like it may be the Lola Mk1 of Irvine Laidlaw.

1955 Lotus Mk X

This car took part in the 1950s Sports Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 2000.

It's the 1955 Lotus Mk X of Adrian Hall, which is very similar to the Lotus Mk VIII but modified to take the 1,971cc 6-cylinder Bristol engine that was derived from the pre-war BMW 328. The body of the car was designed by Frank Costin, brother of Mike Costin, who together with Keith Duckworth founded Cosworth Engineering.

1955 Lotus Mk X

This car competed in the Louis Vuitton 1950s Sports Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in August 1996.

It's the 1955 Lotus Mk X of Adrian Hall which has a 6-cylinder 1,971cc Bristol engine. Six or seven examples of the Lotus Mk X were built, and it is very similar to the Mk VIII but modified to take the larger Bristol engine that was derived from the pre-war BMW 328. The body of the car was designed by Frank Costin, brother of Mike Costin, who together with Keith Duckworth founded Cosworth Engineering. The programme of the event says that the car is red, and I have a photograph of the car I took the following year when it was red with a white stripe across the body just above where the number '6' is here, so it looks as if the painting of the car took place later than was anticipated.

I've shown a photograph of the Lotus Mk X  previously, on 13th May 2015, and here's another photograph of one taken at the International Historic Grand Prix meeting at Donington Park in May 2004.

This is Adrian Hall's 1955 car, and as I said before, it's based on the Lotus Mk VIII, but modified for the Bristol engine. You can see the bulge in the engine cover to accommodate the taller engine.
